PC, Burnie have not changed the way they go about it for years. You can't abuse the ref for 90 minutes and expect to end up with 11 men on the park. When the ref says to you "I give up my time to come and referre and I get this sort of treatment" what do you think will happen? (maybe a reason why we have no ref's?) Give up whinging when you give away a free kick and get on with it would be the advice I would give.
I was wondering who Burnie were going to blame first, sorry p.c but every time Burnie get a red card or 2 for this matter you always get on here and blame all the wrong people. It's a fact Burnie will never change and T.C I'm afraid but you rules and implements have to be questioned too. Maybe you could explain why the red cards occurred and are you going to appeal Burnie's 5th and 6th red card for the year?
To the anonymous trio[so mfar].First let me tell you that I am not involved in any official way with Burnie and cannot decide on appeals.Secondly have the courage to use your name and thirdly I admire your loyalty to a former club player and member. If young Parke said what he was booked for then he deserved his penalty but what about Stitz..why was he sent off for..was that justified!Come on fellows I respect your club and achievements in such a short time but don't let it go to your heads as many empires rose and self destroyed. All the best for the rest of the season PC
PC, you cant say with any assurance that the comments are defiantly from Rangers, as I cant say that they are 100% not, so lets just assume they are from a gutless anonymous brigade of posters that frequent this site.
I will say though, I didn’t hear the first Red, which I thought was Connor, but understand it was directed at a player not the official, the second one which I did hear was an audible dissent @ the ref, and as we learnt at Montello last year, any swearing that is audible, can end up a red card, best not to swear full stop and remove the risk.
With respect to Sasa, I thought he did a good job in a tough match that was played in pretty good spirits, you cant blame the guy for flicking reds for language, and I know he could have flicked another out before half time that he let go.
Ill say this, Burnie are certainly a better side now than they were early in the year, and still have that never say die attitude that make them one of our toughest opposition, particularly away from home, I admire the fight and passion in many of your club, and as long as you have that, you will bounce back quicker than most. Was good to escape montello with the points. Thanks for the day.
This is not having a go at anyone's comment on here, nor judging what "happened at Montello" but as a matter of interest...
Refs and others often say they are "giving up their time" to ref our (NPL) games...they are NOT and the quicker they realise that, the better! They are getting paid to do a job. We, as players are all amateurs and in general give 100% effort, but, as refs are being paid for their time, they should be acting as professionals (even if their performances are less than adequate!). I, nor any any other REASONABLE player / person have issues with refs making mistakes, but it's the lack of effort (keeping up with play etc.) and the attitude that they are out there doing us a favour and abusing the "power" they have which creates frustration amongst players and often results in the cards for dissent. I agree that refs put up with too much rubbish from players (myself included) but the smug and at times smart arsed nature of some refs is not only unprofessional but lacks any respect. And respect is what they expect in return...not a chance! Players "must" respect officials but it is made heaps easier when the same respect is reciprocated!
While I'm on it...does anyone know why the "southern" refs that we see in the NPL from time to time take it upon themselves to a) speak to teams before kick off and b) actually attempt to get to know players - even if it is merely a first name??? (it was a rhetorical question...This may seem trivial, but it does go a long way to building rapport with players and in the end would make the jobs of refs in the NPL a lot easier by reducing dissent...in my opinion. #refsarepoorbutattheveryleastpretendlikeyougiveas*%t
Referees have little or no respect for the players and yet expect to be shown respect. Its a two way street.
I dont disagree with the amount of crap that they receive, but it all comes down from frustration. With some referees you cant even enquire about their decision and what it was for so that you can make sure that you dont do it again for example.
Simon from Hobart doesnt have any issues with players, because he treats them with respect and allows them to enquire what the decison was for. Once he has advised the reason, thats it. The players leave it at that..
Twang, You will find that "southern" refs are instructed to do any team "chats" and gear inspections before the match as it is a bit late once both teams are on the pitch. This enables players to ask the ref any questions and also for players to correct any gear issues before play starts. Getting to know players names can help diffuse a difficult situation and works in the ref's favour most of the time. I agree ref's do put up with too much at times but it comes down to consistency and maybe stamping out the dissent etc early in the game lets players know the ref wont take any bs and we can all get on with the game. End of the day everyone is there to have "competive" fun, ref's included!! "southern ref"
I think the simple answer as to why the gear etc is inspected on the pitch in the north, is that the referee has just done a line in the ressies, so the teams are already out warming up. This is probably mainly due to the shortage of refs? Certainly better to do the inspection and chat in the rooms if you can, but probably just don't get the chance too often?
Standing on the sideline with an ex referee and an ex Somerset coach we noticed that the linesman was very often about 5 meters behind the last defender. When the ex ref pointed it out to him he was sort of sarcastically laughing and not moving perhaps trying to show him who the boss was. THESE ARE THE OFFICIALS THE CLUBS HAVE TO PAY FOR. About time some of them get their act together and earn thjeir money. PC
I don't blame some refs for their lack of respect for some players, the ones who constantly and disrespectfully argue every descion he makes, that the player one mindedly disagrees with. But there are a few cases where some refs seem as though they are on a power trip. I rate Sasha and Parr.
Most of the Launceston refs are very approachable and generally dont flick unnecessary cards out. For example both S[ice and Parry will always give a player a warning before a booking, and generally let the game go a bit. Sash is generally OK as well probably didnt have his best game on weekend, however have seen him have a lot of good ones.
However certain clubs do have issues with players send offs, is this the referees or the players I think its the later.
Spicer lets it go a bit because he's nowhere near the play! Not a bad referee when he's in the area of the play but too often he's on the other side of the ground & doesn't interpret the play correctly. Sasa is a quality referee, so is Parr.
Referreeing at its best!!!and clubs have to pay them for it.

ReplyDeleteand it was the one of the young up and comers that got sent off for abusing the ref.... learning well from the old boys!

Mitch's was justified PC. Made a tackle was adjudged to have committed a foul, swore then said send me off then I dont care.
ReplyDeleteNot 5 or 10 min earlier had been abusing the ref as I quoted in the second post.

Deletecan I ask then why is Parry doing reserves matches?? Surely if he is held in such high regard then he should be referreeing senior games.
