Round 7 of the Northern Premier League

Toby Omenihu has been in good form for Knights, having a
hand in 3 goals against Devonport last Round.
Northern Rangers v Burnie United 2.30pm – NTCA
A fair bit of difference between these two on the ladder, but Burnie have a good record over Rangers in recent times, and are never an easy game for the Launceston club.  Rangers have a few players out of their back line with Luke Tuma injured and Tenzing Anderson overseas so their depth will tested in the defensive area this weekend.  Marcus vanderharst comes in for his senior debut at right back and Sam Nugteren returns to the starting line up.
Player to watch – Agele Luate Northern Rangers.

Ulverstone v Prospect Knights 2:30pm – Ulverstone Showgrounds. MATCH OF THE ROUND
Ulverstone have had the wood on Prospect now for 2 or 3 years, with the exception of a win the Knights had over Ulverstone last year, there will be a healthy respect from both sides and this should be a close and top notch fixture.  Game of the round as both teams again need the win, and as is often the case, a draw will do no one any good, expect the two to go at each other for the full 90 minutes, though I expect a low score line with both teams having exceptional goal keepers in Ryan Keep for Ulverstone and Kris Beardwood for Knights.
Player to watch – Brayden Mann, Ulverstone
Devonport v Launceston United 2:30pm – Valley Road.
Devonport should have little trouble with Launceston, despite getting beaten last round by Knights.  Again Devonport traditionally give Launceston a football lesson in this fixture, but the two are much more evenly matched this year, and a Launceston surprise is remote, but not out of the question. Kiren Mulraney is in great form in front of goal, scoring in every game of the season so far I believe for Devonport and Jesse Curran is an exciting young midfielder who is already having an outstanding year.
Nick Lanau-Atkinson will be looking to rediscover his good
early season form.
Player to watch – Jesse Curran, Devonport

Riverside v Somerset 2:30pm – Windsor Park
Riverside will still be licking their wounds after their 8-0 drubbing to Rangers last round, but they will be equally eager to get back on the park and prove to everyone that it was nothing more than an off day at the races.  The two match up pretty well for size and speed, though Riverside have more quality across the park, and with Somerset improving each week, this again should be a close game and worth getting down to watch.
Players to Watch – Mark Christie, Riverside, Chris Smith, Somerset.

Some interesting games to complete the first half of what I think is a season too short.
Every team dropping points and every team has now lost a game, which makes things very tight again.

Here is the equation as stated by one of our anonymous posters:  Green for opposition currently below them, Red for opposition above on the table

Devonport lead the league with Riverside and Launceston to play

Rangers have Burnie, L'ton City and Somerset
Knights play Riverside, Ulverstone and L'ton City
Ulverstone face Knights and Launceston
Riverside meet Knigthts, Devonport and Somerset

Ulverstone V Rangers headline Round Five Fixtures.

Agele Luate attacks for Northern Rangers
Ulverstone will host Northern Rangers in the match of the round for round five of the Forestry Tasmania Northern Premier League.
Both Sides have had strong starts, Ulverstone’s only blemishes an unfortunate 3-3 draw with Devonport and a 1 all draw with Riverside,  Rangers dropping points at home in a 2-1 loss also against Devonport last round.
It all points to a close battle, with both teams needing the win to keep in touch with Devonport and the other challengers.  Ulverstone have not beaten Rangers since the last round of 2008 but find themselves as a real title threat for the first time since 1999 when they finished 3rd.
Prospect Knights will be looking to continue their dominance of Launceston United in recent years when they travel across town to meet at Birch Avenue.  Launceston have returned 4 points already this year, breaking their drought that has dated back to 2008 for their last league win.  In that year they only delivered the club 7 points, one feels they will exceed that in 2012 with ease, but may struggle to earn any points against the defending champions this weekend.
Riverside's Steve Goulbranson
Prospect will welcome back Chris Pickering and Tim Claxton from suspension to boost the side that beat Somerset 2-0, but their last game was 2 weeks ago, and this may be an issue for Prospect after copping the bye and state wide cup weekend consecutively.
Launceston will look to their Prospect recruit in Jack Hudson to give some drive from the left of the park and I’m sure Jack would love a goal against his old club.
Riverside and Launceston City will kick off at 12:30 to promote the youth in their clubs and move the Under 18 game to the 2:30 time slot.  Riverside are un beaten so far this year, and Troy Scott will be happy with the results from his boys, though concerned with the clubs inability to put weaker sides away such as Launceston and Burnie, whom they have only beaten by a single goal so far this season.
Launceston City will be keen to just be competitive and try and snatch a point or 3 at this point.  Games between these sides are often close, though I think Riverside will be too strong here.
Devonport will be too strong for Somerset this weekend, even with Somerset welcoming back some players from injury.  The late kick off time will give other clubs a chance to get along to Valley road and see the game in the twilight kick off at 4:30.  Devonport will remain on top of the ladder after 5 rounds, that you can be sure of.
