State League Teams Announced

And They are:
From the North
Northern Rangers
Devonport City
Launceston City
From the South
Kingborough Lions
South Hobart
Hobart Olympia
Glenorchy Knights
Hobart Zebras
Some surprises there from the South with most expecting Clarence to get in and Newtown to miss out along with Glenorchy.  We wait for the southern fall out.

  1. Congratulations to those teams that made it in. Commiserations to those that didn't.

Most expected the three from the north. Down south, Olympia were always favourite over Clarence however, Newtown missing out behind Glenorchy Knights... The CSE will be absolutely spewing! Should be a good read on Walter's blog over the next few days!

  3. 3 v 5 north and south. Interested to see how many players move to be part of this league!

Personally the idea of the league is a great idea, having to play for city or rangers..... Not so great!

    2. sorry, i didn't relise the site wasn't about opinions!

the fact remains, while the idea is great, we want the best players in the state playing in this comp. With only 2 teams from launceston being involved, options are limited if you want to get involved.

Had knights got in instead of city, I garuntee not to many of their your blokes would fancy the move to knights, its an opinion that not only I will have (although im sure rangers and city folk wont agree), and as I stated, it will be very interesting to see who does actually move!

    3. I think a few will turn up at Rangers. Player regos for the 20 man state league squad are part of the entrance fee so players will play for free.

City will splash the cash, but generally this doesnt work and their main benefactor has moved s I hear

    4. the original comment from Anon is true, there will be some emotional issues for players to up and leave a club to which they have been loyal to over the years, and go and set up with, what in Launceston is almost always a fierce rival, but as has been the case in our time in the league, players who do come in, generally find we are not that bad a place to play football as what is reported to them prior to making the switch, the older I get the more I think this is probably a fair statement of all clubs in the NPL, all clubs have their pros and cons, but at the end of the day, WE are all just trying to play good attractive football with the resources available. Add to this, the most passionate people are generally the most vocal, so tend to attract the most attention (Love and Hate), hence when they make a statement or do something, the other clubs will ( generally speaking) find a problem with it, no matter what it is, while the club they are involved with will applaud and appreciate the hard work the individuals have put in.

Hypothetically, If I were today a promising talented player and good enough to play in a state league, where my club was not going to be involved (NRFC) truth be told, I would lay aside my differences and go up and contribute to City or whoever was in the t-league. Life is too short for regrets, and your playing days are even shorter.

    6. i would imagine clubs would keep their player signings card close to their chest for a while yet

    7. Agree with you Donk on the fact about players moving to other clubs to play at the top level. Even I had a season with Launceston Juventus back in the old state league, when Devonport weren't involved. I bet those of you that have only been around the scene for the last 10-12 years would never have thought that I played for anyone else other than Devonport. As a young player still at the time, I wanted to continue playing at the highest level there was available to me, and Juventus approached me to play so I took up their offer. After that season, Devonport came back into the state league so I returned to them. The rivalry continued between our two clubs for many years, but one thing is for sure, I got to know the players off the field a bit better and I'm still friends with some of them today. As a young player, if you have any ambition whatsoever, you will play with any club regardless of any past history. Great to see the State League back!

  4. Lton City better get there cheque book out, there current squad will be pumped.

I wonder if Rangers have any signings in the pipeline.

Love em or hate em Rangers have come a long way since 1999 and no Im not a member of their club before you start bashing them.

I do remember them once being the easy beats. Whether they win the NPL or not for them to be selected in this league after such a short period of time is credit to all those who have worked for that club.

I wish them all the best

  5. Congratulations Donk on your acceptance, all your hard work has paid off. City very interesting in my opinion, will get smashed at the moment, either way too old or way too young. 3 years is not long enough for them to get settled. Lots of boots to be bought round the shops next season to drag players from there loyal clubs. Sometimes loyalty means alot more than a new pair of boots!!

  6. City most likely got in on their history and would be reasonably sound off the park, out of them and Knights they were always going to win.

They have in the past few seasons tried to lure current NPL clubs over with the lure of cash, and I dont think I they have picked up one player.

Cant see much changing in that regard, no one from Knights will go over. They may go for an import or 2, but from what I here the money man at city has moved on.

  7. have Knights go a comment on your non acceptance. A tough one, considering AB was a big fan last season, if I remember rightly.

Ps Im taking the piss either asking a legitimate question

    3. Yes we were fans of a state league and I still hope it works but as this season moved on we certainly arent ready for this and I question if FFT are either.

I am shocked however that some clubs with sub standard facilities have been accepted. I would think the facilities for crowd and players should be at the best on offer and this clearly is not.

I do question with 4 refs for each game where they will get 16 officials a weekend (what do the NPL get) at the standard needed ? the money and travel involved in this project is not small and for games to be possible determanded by sub standard officials will be a concern and something I dont think FFT have concidered.
Its great to try and get the best players playing each week but how will it be controlled.

Anyway get luck to Rangers, Devonport and City I do hope I am proven wrong.

  8. What's the future of the Steve Hudson Cup now then?
Would be quite a laugh to see Launie City go thru the pre-season tournament without getting a win.
I'm sure Olympic, United and Knights would love to have a hand in making them look stupid every year

  9. I wonder if there will be any of the npl sides unable to field teams next year with players looking to have a shot at the v-league. I wonder what this is going to do to the npl

  10. Mark cristy to rangers next year

  11. City in state league riverside united and knights good luck producing any decent players looks like the past has held city in good sted

  12. I wonder if city will be rebuilding change rooms for next season or continue to offer up a cesspit of a change room for visiting teams to change in? Werent facilities a factor in the decision making process for state league?

  13. Launceeston city has the biggest junior feeder club in the north, I don't think there is a senior club that doesn't have at least 3 or 4 players that had come from westside so before everyone starts going on about city poaching players maybe look at where they came from.

    1. With numbers steadily reducing over the last few years.

    2. Sorry Anonymous...cannot agree with your assesment re steadily reducing numbers at westside.ALL junior clubs have nowhere near that they used to attract. This year 380 registered players at westside...miles ahead of all other clubs with the exception of Riverside...please do your homework.cheers ME

  15. pity ulverstone didnt get the chance... i would of payed the entrance fee for them...top 3 and they dont get a look in

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ulverstone didn't apply - probably the reason they didn't get a look in.

    ReplyDelete
  17. not that they didn't get a look in callan....they didn't apply, so questions have got to be asked of their administration. FFT have said only 4 teams from NPL applied.
