Well done to the "Maaaaannnnnnnnnnnnn"!! Could well just of cost his team a chance to take out this years title for jawing off and getting suspended. Surprised much.....
I am a Rangers Fan. What we saw yesterday was the most dominant performance we have seen in years. Well done Devonport, your performance was highly skilled and played in the right spirit. However, unfortunately your performance will be overshadowed by comments and discussion on the refereeing display. Rather than talking about individual referees we need to be recognizing the absolute lack of depth and quality in the ranks. The participants in the game are younger, fitter and more skilled than ever before but our refs are getting older and less capable of reading the play. But we shouldn't be blaming them, they are trying to contribute to the game at a time when they themselves would probably prefer to be in the stands enjoying the action. The real problem is the lack of a plan to bring young refs through the system. A Statewide League will be of little use if the player quality continues to improve, but the ref quality continues to decline. Now is the time for FFT to recognise the situation and have as a priority the development of young referees. At the moment the system does not allow them the opportunity to gain experience at the senior level and as a consequence we are losing them. We need to be encouraging and mentoring them and even throwing some funds towards their development. Let me tell you it would be money well spent and an investment for the future.
The yellow card that Brayden Mann received was very very dubious, i personally think it's a joke that Beechey and Brayden both got carded for a discussion between themselves, that involved no foul language or derogatory terms aimed at the referee, possibly wanted to assert his authority on the game and in doing so has cost Brayden a game and could pussibly effect ulvie, disappointing.
Agreed with Ranger Fan. Yesterday we were totally out played. We played probably played Dev at their best yesterday and they showed us a thing or to. Best brand of football we have played against. They have showed all year now that they aren't a 1 man McKenna team as he has hardly played. Not to be dwelling on the results as yes they did miss 2 penalties also, I am sure we will re group and it has made the stakes higher for Ulvies arrival to our home ground. We are desperate for redemption next week.
Haha i guess the refs have had enough of Manns constant 'whinging' and 'diving' all year. They are a better 'team' without him anyway. Less egos in a team the better. Just my opinion.
This is what happened... Brayden had been fowled a lot and wasn't getting love from the ref in terms of free kicks. He was quieter than usual as he knew about the card situation. The City player said something along the lines of 'your not getting much today, what did you do, sleep with his (the refs) daughter or something?' Brayden replied 'I must have." Both got booked for decent. I asked the ref what it was for as I was on the field at this time (trying to play). The ref said decent. I asked what did Brayden say? He said it didn't matter what he said, it was decent. Judge for yourself.
Anon 16:18. You have a problem with people jawing off yet you are on here jawing off. ironic much...
All these people knocking Brayden but with the T-League coming you would all be happy if he came to your club and the attention he gets seems to make him play better so keep it up.
I am obviously disappointed about being suspended. But if having a discussion with beechey warrants a yellow card then I'm not sure what doesn't. the referee could not tell me what I said or what I did wrong. even beechey said that I was hard done by and it was no way a yellow card. saying that, I have absolute faith that the boys can get the job done this week against rangers without me. As for whinging and diving, think what you like, I play the game with passion, I respect my opponents and like to think that most of them respect me. if a few anons want to.have a crack at me then that's fine, I'm happy to cop your criticism
I wonder if ranger players will take pics of themselves taking a player in a red and black shirt from behind after a win on the wkend? That'd be showing "respect" for opponents, right?
fair enough, I stand corrected Brayden. I can also see the funny side of it too, after a hammerring like that! I suppose my mistake highlights how that the actions of a few at a club can tarnish the reputation of all. Enjoy the rest, I might even come out for a look and see how your mates perform without you. Twang
AB once again, you also don't know the facts. I was not the one to take a picture or be apart of the "bending over " picture. I took a picture of both jerseys side by side indicating the scoreline, nothing crude about it, or disrespectful for that matter. You should learn to focus on your team, might see some results then. thanks
So to take a picture of another clubs strips and gear is not disrespectful?? Get your head out of it Brayden, a shocking incident with you admitting your involvement, doesn't matter what photo you were in, you were aware of what was happening!! So do you still respect your opponents??
I don't think its disrespectful at all. I actually wasn't there when the bending over picture was taken so I wasn't aware. my picture was no different than posting the 6-0 scoreline on this blog. yes I do respect my opponents.
Brayden that you did just proves you are young and dumb, because you don't win this week that 6-0 thing you done mean's nothing because you win nothing, just go back to hobart and take the easy way and play for a team that always wins.
ab get over yourself, cant handle a bit of fun eh? you need to lighten up a bit and focus on your team that is not going well before commenting on other teams!
anon 19:34 you must be a young boy because if brayden did that 20years ago he would be in alot of trouble with the older supporters.he is not talking about other teams, why write a letter saying how sorry he is if there was nothing wrong of what he did,we will see.
Brayden, the club and I have apologised for the incident. We can't do much else apart from showing your club the respect it deserves next time you visit the Showgrounds. That was the end of the matter until it was brought up by Twang above. The amount of disrespect Brayden cops from other players and spectators each week is more than most. He will make mistakes at times but we all do.
Last year, a coach from your club shouted repeatedly at a 16 year old calling him an idiot when he was merely chasing the ball. I say and do stupid things at times. Just last week during the game when I was on the field the City keeper got a hand to Bray's freekick but didn't save it. I said to him 'don't be scared to save them, mate'. that is disrespectful and immature but we do these things sometimes. It could be seen as disrespectful and inappropriate when you smoke on sporting grounds but, once again, we do these things sometimes and we don't please everyone.
I respect your club, and all others, even though I have done things that would suggest otherwise. We make mistakes and we move on. And I will publicly now say that if anyone was offended by the photos that were taken, I sincerely apologise. This was the main reason I gave up doing the blog and resigning from the presidency of Ulverstone.
Ahhh Nick but the simple issue was that on here Brayden denied any actions and that has now been cleared up by yourself.
And Nick I wouldnt start bring up issues of coments 12months ago, as I do cldnt remind you and your club of coments but as you say we all say things at the heat of battle. But most of us respect all when the final whistle is blown something some young people need to learn hey !
As someone involved with the Ulverstone Soccer this incident was an unfortunate lapse of judgement made worse by the involvement of social media sites. The club removed the photos and issued the appropriate apologies... I do not think these pictures should have been taken and I certainly do not think they should have been posted on Facebook however what's done is done so we can do nothing if not try to move forward. I 100% agree with this Nicks comment, I can quite clearly remember a game I attended at Prospect Park not all that long ago and as a spectator I was highly offended by the language and abuse that was hurled at the players. But as a club you can't be in control of what happens at every moment. As for Braydens card, I believe it was not justified however the decision has been made and that's really all there is to it. Ulverstone have a skilled group of players and I have no doubt they can beat Rangers and take the title.
The ugly topic about referees has popped up again. I really do feel for you Brayden as I think you have been felt a harsh blow. After playing against somerset last week a player yelled f&@k me at the top of his head. In which the crowed did hear because they responded by yelling out your gone mate. Much to my surprise it was play on. Iy self was then confused because last year if the f or c bombs were deployed it was a strait red. Asking the ref why was that not a card? His response was now you can say the f or c word as Loud as you want so long as you do not direct it at any one.....wtf? So after all that it seems to me that every referee have their own rules. Which is making it bloody hard to play the game ATM. God help if state league gets going because there will be red cards every where. Keep your head up Brayden your having a cracker of a year
Sam, I think you'll find that the person did receive a yellow card for his swearing. It happened when we played New Town and the ref in that game said it's only a yellow unless it's directed at another player or the ref.
Yes Annon you are correct one somerset player did get booked who was Danny but Brodie was the incident I was referring too. Even he thought he was going to get a card...
It was a ridiculous yellow card that was not warranted at all. Also I fail to understand how descent can be worse that kicking the S#*T out of another player(although this case wasn't even descent). It should be looked at and retracted, as referee's aren't ALWAYS right.
Its a crock when one of the best referees in the North is Sasa Jurkovic and I see him watching the biggest game in the north from the Stands. I know you get on here jeff, why are you not getting a gig? I heard Decani was doing north west appointments....this is foolishness. Why not have Ross logan appoint all referees, at least he has a clue!
The Mann card is just a total load of ...... what the heck is going on?
i would have been very happy to have had that centre. some of the more enjoyable matches i refereed have been rangers v port. however work has my nutsack in a vicelike grip atm, i finished at mersey at 330 and came straight over to watch.
Players get yellow carded all the time when its not warranted, same as people getting yellow cards when they should get a red. Brayden's card isn't a one off, just because its his 5th people talk about it. how about don't get 4 other yellow's? not having a go at Brayden and ulvie will miss him for the week. But players getting cards they didnt deserve, that happens almost every week.
You can't reject any yellow cards. So build a bridge and move on. Players aren't ALWAYS right either. If he wasn't on 4 yellows already, there would not of been an issue with him getting one on the weekend.
Any bloke that blows kisses to a camera when they beat us, and knows where it is and carries on like a chook deserves to have a week off to think about themselves Lol.
the card might have been poor, but he's not the first nor will he be the last to cop one. As unfortunate as it is, it s part of the game, and guys who are passionate probably cop it most! But how could we retract it now?
I'm sure somewhere along the line Brayden will get away with something he should be booked for (will u then be asking the ref to book him?), things usually even out across a season.
I know from personal experience (being a lose cannon on the field) that I got away with a heap and could then get a soft one the next week. move on....
I wouldn't normally comment on criticisms of referees or their decisions (especially mine) as I am well aware that people see incidents from different positions and perspectives, and can form entirely differing views, so I am hoping the comments below are seen as educative and not simply as justification for action taken. Brayden and Beechey were both cautioned (yellow card) for dissent, after they had a conversation (reported reasonably well above) in which they were derisive towards me and my decisions, while standing well within earshot (1.5m). What has not been reported above, and this is where I hope readers will be informed, are the circumstances that occurred in the lead up to this incident. I had previously spoken to Brayden on 4 occasions earlier in the game, twice when I considered that he went to ground far too easily in a tackle, and where I deemed that he was trying to gain an unfair advantage over the defender, and twice when he previously argued against decisions that I had made (dissent). On the last of these 4 occasions, he apologised for his behaviour after I warned him that I would accept no more. Likewise, I had previously spoken to Beechey when he had commented loudly, but behind my back (in what I considered a bit of a 'cheap shot')about my control of the game, and I also warned him that I would accept no more similar behaviour. The incident in which they subsequently received the yellow cards was therefore not an isolated occasion - despite what might be perceived from comments posted above. Despite what some players and spectators think, most referees do try to keep their cards in their pocket, and try not to react to individual incidents, unless they involve something nasty. This was the case here - the incident in which they were cautioned was not an isolated occurrence, but earlier warnings had gone unheeded. Brayden and Beechey are both reasonable people, and while they may still not agree with the cards, I am sure that they would acknowledge that these previous incidents occurred and that there had been warnings issued about the consequences of repeated behaviour. The game was played in a physical, but generally fair manner, and there was not a single tackle all day that was nasty or that warranted a card being issued. (As an aside, my assistant did think that a challenge by the City keeper on Brayden was a bit harsh, but from where I was standing I thought it was okay, so I may have got that one wrong.) I hope that provides some clarity on what occurred and educates readers that we referees do not take any pleasure in dishing out cards, but sometimes our warnings to players go unheeded and we have no other course of action available. I won't be responding to and subsequent posts, as I do not see that this will add value (and have not posted earlier as was suggested by one person above.) Regards Mark Fishwick Referee
1.5 meters? if one says "geez your not getting much today" to the other, does that warrant a card for both players? bit ridiculous for both players to get cautioned
Interesting comments on referees, but no suggestions on how to fix the problems that we have faced for many years.. T League will get all the top qualified referees next year, they promise 4 officials at every match, so guess what the Northern League matches will get..scary isn't it! So all you self appointed experts I suggest you all get onto your club committees and begin the process to develop more refs, you need 3 years minimum to get a newie up to Senior standard.
