I would laugh, if Burnie beat Riverside in the last round. Condemning Lonnie City to 2nd last, after all the sprouting on here about how good they were this year.
Interesting to see if dev plays a full strength team in their next game. I here they have a few injuries. Will they rest them against prospect? could have a influence on who finises top
Devonport can still win the league so they will play their best available 11. They would also want to at least finish top 2 to avoid a trip to Hobart in the 1st week of the Finals series.
devonport would now realise they cannot finish top.they may choose to rest some of their injuries in preparation for the up coming finals series .will ulverstone rangers do the same?
Knights have to be favourites as they are the only team with their destiny only in their hands. Rangers have to win and hope Devonport win or the game is a draw.
Devonport need a draw as a minimum and a Ranger draw or loss.
Considering ulverstone have won 3 of their last 4 at the ntca i would suggest devenport would be doing all they can to win and at least give themselves a chance.
Anon, 04:00, that is a fine stat there!!! so good that I had to check for myself, you are quiet right, Rangers last win against ulverstone @ NTCA was indeed last year, prior to that, you must go back to 2005 for a 2-1 win. applause!
As to the pot stirers, I would suggest no one in the top four would be going in with anything other than thier best XI on the park. I think we can all look forward to a ding dong last round. I will live blog the scores on here from NTCA, would be good to get a reliable source at Harley to give updates as well so those with I phones can keep an eye on things.
People anyone who doesn't think knights have the box seat is not very good at betting! As stated earlier they are the only team that if they win - they win the league! Everyone else has to wait see how the other dice roll as well.
I think Rangers are a bit worried about if dev rest players, bring up old stats so look back and i think every time you played Ulverstone at home it was a nothing game and you rested a few players. Also it's better finishing 1st or 3rd to avoid playing South Hobart till the final and anything can happen in grand finals ask Clarence 2 years ago.
Anon 23:38 they won't rest them but if they no rangers are winning i think they will start taking them off though.Plus if they do rest them you can't get done for tanking in this league lol.
As a rule, I rarely bother commenting on here because of the amount of crap that people write. Today I will make an exception.
Why we would go into our last league game of the season 'resting' players, whilst we still have a chance of being champions, is just beyond belief! Yes, it's a very minute chance that we'll end up on top, but it is a chance. Whoever listed Macdonald, McKenna, Keep and Gratton as being likely to miss has better inside info than I do because, as far as I'm aware, all will be playing. Yes we've had injuries, who hasn't! Our next game is in about a week & a half's time so it provides a pretty good break for all teams.
We have no intention of making it easy for Knights to win the title by resting players. If they're good enough to beat us, as they were earlier in the year, they'll win. If we're good enough to win next week, it will come down to the Rangers V's Ulverstone result to see who wins. Either way, if it's Rangers, Knights or us that wins the title, it will be thoroughly deserved. All three teams have had ups & downs through the year but, in my opinion, the best team always wins. It mightn't be the team that has scores the most goals or has the most possession in games. It'll be the team that can score more goals than their opposition on any given week. We had chances to equalise against Rangers on the weekend but we weren't good enough to do it. They also had chances to extend their lead but couldn't manage that either. End result 3-2 & the better team won.
Good luck to all teams next weekend. It's great to see our competition with so many contenders going into the last round. It's just a shame we can't get any media coverage around our league unlike the big sheilas playing (and I use that term very loosely) Aussie rules. Articles every day for about two weeks for that is a disgrace!!
Obviously Rangers would rather Knights play a full strength Devonport than a half strength, our destiny is not totally in our hands as we have to win our game and hope Knights dont.
As Chris says though its a great season and its a shame that we don't get as much media coverage as "steak", "pud" and "burger" running around in the NEFU and NTFA div 2.
May the best team win on what should be a great finale to the NPL year.
Good stat in saying that Rangers have won their last 6 agaist Ulvie. Wont be an easy game, as Ulvie have been the big improvers this year by a fair way.
In saying that Knights have improved this year as well considering they didnt make the finals last year and are now in pole position to win the league.
Things to ponder after looking at the ladder with a round to play....
Launceston United have scored more goals than Riverside Olympic this year and won't score a point...good offside trap or not???
Ulvy the big improvers? Surely when 3 sides dominate the league like they have this year we can't consider mentioning other teams as "big improvers" - sure some teams have had good performances - but the sign of "improvement" is consistency.
McKenna the best stiker in the league by 11 goals...hmmm, probably. But service has a lot to do with it also...and penalties.
***Side note
Referees coming up from Hobart...definitely a positive move! Referees from the North/North West have their good and bad days as ALL referees and players do but having no pre-concieved ideas about players and teams I see as beneficial!
3 Teams left and all to play for. Devonport a HUGE hurdle for Knights and whilst I can't see Ulvy getting near Rangers, I expect Devonport to play as if they are still well and truly in the hunt for the title...whereas Ulvy can't lose 4th and will more than likely just go through the motions for an honourable loss @ NTCA
Well done to Dev reserves also having wrapped up their league weeks ago...quality side that would give many other senior sides a shake up!
Who wins the George Dale...who cares!
There are my comments for the year, bring on next Saturday!
im sure everyone at the uverstone club and Nick are extremely happy with how they have played this year considering how many players they have lost, congrats.
imagine talking of others ,stating they have no respect, when your comments are made anonomously.it seems clear you know who twang is ,and it seemed his comment was directed to a trophy rather than an individual.felt like giving 00:08 and 06:26 some of their own, however i realised that the shot at twang was all about club and not the individual.by the way ,how well did you guys know George?
Yep McKenna is 11 Goals better than the next striker in the comp. Im not convinced he gets any better service than sessay, he just finds the net a little better and never waistes an opportunity. been winning goal scoring awards for years by big margins.
Deepest apologies everyone, I was under the impression that everyone knew that Twang was me. There are obviously some very sensitive people that read this blog. I didn't mean any disrespect to George Dale, Chris McKenna, Riverside Olympic or Lonny Utd, they were merely observations from the year from my point of view (what a blog is for??)- not "sprouting off". To clarify: I haven't been on the blog until now because I was unaware of it. My comment about LU was because I have seen potential in them going forward but they give themselves no chance in defence playing an offside trap they have no idea about. I stand by my comments about Ulvy, they have been a bogey side for Knights and have put in some other good performances - but biggest improver?? even after losing players...nope! My comments about Kenny...well, take offence if you will but he is a fantastic striker and one we will have to guard come saturday but the focus has been on him ALL YEAR and I feel that his succes (as with all strikers) is also to do with the service he gets from teammates - he will no doubt mention that when he makes his speech at the George Dale Medal. Speaking of which, I have no clue who the man is (ignorance - yes, disrespect - no!) but when I said who cares, I was speaking of the MEDAL, NOT the man. Surely players don't play for individual accolades! Anyway, to the winner go the spoils and the rest can please themselves. Good luck on the weekend...I'm done. SEAN HARRIS
I reckon Knights have their first ever premier league title in the bag, they should account for Devonport I would reckon, party at Prospect Park this Saturday night
Is this blog still active?????
ReplyDeletePeople of the north get excited, this is what we want, with 3 teams in with a chance of winning going into the last round. Best season for years.
ReplyDeleteI would laugh, if Burnie beat Riverside in the last round. Condemning Lonnie City to 2nd last, after all the sprouting on here about how good they were this year.
ReplyDeleteonly 2 teams left dev won't win because you couldn't see ulverstone beat rangers at rangers home ground.
ReplyDeleteRumours are that Rangers have been on here acting as other supports stirring the pot to get themselves fired up ?
ReplyDeleteI guess it worked !
agreed
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see if dev plays a full strength team in their next game. I here they have a few injuries. Will they rest them against prospect? could have a influence on who finises top

We will play a full strength team.

ReplyDeleteof course they will play a full strength team they can still win the league if rangers draw or lose. Game is 2 weeks away as well.
ReplyDeleteanon 2028 like what?
ReplyDeleteKnights have to be favourites as they are the only team with their destiny only in their hands. Rangers have to win and hope Devonport win or the game is a draw.
ReplyDeleteDevonport need a draw as a minimum and a Ranger draw or loss.
Knights win and they win
Why would anyone rest players from the last and this year most important game of the year
ReplyDeleteConsidering ulverstone have won 3 of their last 4 at the ntca i would suggest devenport would be doing all they can to win and at least give themselves a chance.

ReplyDeleteClearly a trend on here from Rangers to fire Devonport up!
ReplyDeleteBefore anyone starts assuming it's from Knights players I can assure you it isn't!

All the best to all 3. The best way to finish the league. All 3 team are deserving winner. Looking forward to the live results fr Singapore.

Unless Ulverstone win this last game they will end up with less points than last year!
ReplyDeleteNo adjectives no superlatives if we are good enough on the day to win we will, if not, to the victor go the spoils.
ReplyDeleteDane Hudson.
Well said Dane, same for Rangers, all they can do is go out and hopefully win their game and hope the result goes there way in the other.
ReplyDeleteNo control over what happens at Harley Parade.

Twang has no respect. Been quiet all year and now his teams in the box seat starts sprouting off. Imagine if they win
