Curious to hear some comments on the proposed Annual Dinner. It is planned as a cocktail night at a cost of $35, for which you will get 1 free drink and a few nibbles. It is a standup affair between 7pm and 11pm. I'm wondering how it will pan out over those 4 hours?
People (including me) can tend to be cynical about different ways of doing things...there are, as ever, pros and cons about this proposed dinner. Is it at the casino again this year?
Pros: The stand-up nature of the affair may encourage more interaction between teams - which, I guess, is part of what the evening is about. It's cheaper! This could entice more people to attend.
Cons: I'm only 28...but I don't know how I'll cope standing for 4 hours...let alone the the elder statesmen (or women) of our clubs, particularly after a few drinks! Speaking of drinks. Players and club officials do enjoy a few drinks on these evenings. Will a few nibbles suffice to feed those who do enjoy a few hard earned drinks? Does that create an issue for RSA? Also, the nibbles never (ever) seem to make their way to me. That is, until the plate is empty...
Other: I like seeing all of the votes from all of the games. Even if they are just displayed on a PowerPoint throughout the evening. They can still read the last few rounds (that was great last year) - I don't think there are many who would disagree with me about that! The PowerPoint shouldn't take that long to put together. It was good to see printouts available of votes for each league at the end of last year's dinner. Please do that again this year FFT. It was good for mugs like me to see if I scored a vote (given that the only votes revealed were the last 5 games as read out). Please, please can the evening retain some sense of occasion. We are not the Victory League but that doesn't mean we should be treated as second class citizens!
Personally, I'd prefer a sit down meal. However, I'm happy to try something new!
The event will be held at the Old Great Northern, (now a Best Western Comfort) in Earl Street. I agree that cost has become concern and I too welcome the opportunity to try something new, however you do raise some excellent points. I presume that FFT believe that everyone will have a meal before they attend to avoid the issue of grog on empty stomachs. I totally agree with all your comments under Other, lets hope FFT take note.
pretending??? again??? based on what? the premiership only 2 seasons ago or the 4th spot we snuck into last year in front of a few more fancied teams. care to elaborate? Could make plenty of excuses for the wkends performance (and did make plenty at the time) but there's no point, the facts being that we were poor and as for the sharks, they're a good side and like the comment reads below, it'll be good to see them in action against a stacked devonport or rangers outfit to see where they really are.
Nothing to do with knights defence. Sharks offence and delivery through the midfield is first class. Be great to see somerset play a southern team or even a v league team. Would be a brilliant game
You say that just beat burnie. Is that the only game you have seen them play for the year. Considering they beat them 8-0 first round. And spanked every other time as well. They have hit some good form and could take it up to a v-league team im sure
