We Are Back For 2015

Hi,
I hope every one had a safe and happy christmas and new year. The blog is about to fire back up with pre season starting at most clubs and with the summer cup and state wide cup kicking off next month i had better pull my finger out.
Has any one got any news. Ie people moving and coaching any thing at all?

  1. Knights have folded. What will happen with the rostering?

  2. It's very sad to hear what the Knights are going through but I don't think they have folded, players are the issue here and ground availability. This is the time where we as a football (soccer) community need to rally behind the Knights in any way possible to see them on the park in 2015.
Past players if not playing at the moment should don the boots to get this proud club out there.
I wish new president Phil Van Ash and the entire club all the best and if there is anything the NPL blog can do to assist just contact us...

  4. Are there any dates for the NW Preseason Cup? Will there be one?

  5. Rumours of a merger between Launceston United and Prospect Knights? Can anyone fill us all in?

  6. Hi
Been advised today that, sadly, the husband and wife killed at Lilydale on Sunday in a motorbike accident, were Michael Pel and his wife. Michael was a much respected referee from Launceston, and had been doing V League games and Premier League games in recent times. He will be missed.

  7. Not great news to start 2015, Knights have gone into recess and will blend into Launceston United with the hope of getting back soon.
Ulverstone are struggling with numbers but like most NW clubs, cricket is still in progress and a lot of players will not appear until after finals are played.
The new 21 round roster is out and should provide plenty of challenges for clubs with only 2 weekends off for Cup rounds. There are a minimum of sunday games but some clubs will suffer with several matches in a row away from home, it is always difficult to keep spectators coming if your not at home for 4 weeks.
Easter looks hectic with roster matches Friday and Saturday then the Cup matches on Easter Monday for the final 16, games also on Anzac day and Mothers day.
It would seem that only the VL clubs have the numbers to feel secure at this stage, however we certainly cannot lose another club.
On a sadder note I would like to pass on my condolences to the Pel family on the tragic loss of Michael and his wife. A great bloke that will be missed.

  8. Somerset update..Club Coach - Casey Eaves has a good squad training since before Xmas, however like most clubs we will lose a fair few players from last years winning squad. Youngster Matty Jordan is trialling at Devonport, Nick Freeman and Keil Haas have moved to Melbourne for University, Chris Smith is doubtful after coming out of retirement last year, Kaimon Johnson looks like having a year off sport with new houses and a new baby taking up his and Megan's time, Kyrone Johnson is committed to his partner's family this season and will play footy with local club Somerset.
Lots of chat about new players or old ones returning but no one sighted on the track so far.
Several quality lads from last years Unders will move up to make up some holes, but I doubt they will be as strong as previous seasons. No doubt that the team from 2013 was the best I have seen for some time.

  9. Not much chat going on here. Use it or lose it folks. The new blog "slice of cheese" is going well but only caters for southerners so this is our blog, please use it.
Great to see women playing on Saturdays as I know it will ease work loads on clubs and make Saturday night functions more enjoyable.
Somerset has got a great raffle going with a signed and framed "Pele" shirt as 1st prize and an airline package as 2nd along with several smaller prizes. Make sure you get a ticket when your at Shark Park.

  11. Nick Gratton has put in a solid pre season and is self rating himself as the most likely comp medal winner already. Rig Douglas is off bathing duty on Saturdays and is looking sharp. Cotton wool Ken is returning from injury and from the mouth of president Andrew ' He will win the golden boot at a canter'. Andrews also didn't shy away to questions regarding his return between the sticks......
At Ulvy, Barrell Bakdock has strengthened then the playing stock and my even don the gloves. The Cox-Haines boys will be ou. to hack down anyone that stands in their way.
any news on Burnie or L'United

  12. First round this weekend, good luck to all teams.
My picks Sharks should beat City, Rangers over Burnie, Devonport over Olympic and the Ulvie / United match could go either way.
Rangers and Devonport should be the teams to beat this year and Sharks will going hard as they are will keen to go for the triple.

  13. Good day at montello, very fast flowing game. Both teams creating oppertunities, Burnie capitalising scoring two. Some grat goal keeping and the referees done a great job too!! Rangers fielded a young team, I somewhat question their fitness as guys where cramping up in the first half already ( they might of played earlier game, not sure)
    Early days yet.
Somerset had a big win! Well done out there

  15. Thanks BF, how was the game? did Ulv have enough numbers for the day? Read they where a bit light on.
also interested how may numbers Launy picked up from Prospect

  16. Burnie over Somerset 2-1, awesome game in goals by Aiden Smith not being a regular keeper. Burnie boys played well. Will Nichols scoring the winner by chipping the 6foot plus Somerset keeper.

  17. Am I right in saying that Chris Smith is back again for Somerset? More returns that Johnny Farnham!

  18. Burnie 3-1 over city
    Somerset 3-2 over Ulverstone

    1. Incredible, isn't it? It's pretty poor from FFT really...it's been that way for a couple of weeks I think!

  20. I think you will find Smithy is helping out with numbers at a club which doesn't want to end up like prospect.most clubs are struggling for numbers I have been told.. only playing ressies I think due to work commitments..he has never actually said he was retiring.well he hasn't mentioned it to me..thats just garbage nigel brown makes up when he has nothing better to do with his time as he has said this about a lot of somerset players when he may think they might slip down the ladder.
