Northern Premier League Discussion.

There has been some request for matters pertaining to the Northern Premier League, and with just over a week before the first game there is much to discuss.
Should Prospect be allowed to field an U20 team in the U18s because of lacking numbers or should they abide by the same rules and guidelines for the rest of the competition?
Who will win the NPL title in your opinion, Somerset have a strong list, Ulverstone look the goods too while Riverside have been extremely impressive in the Hudson Cup.
Have a comment on what you please, but if it’s a crack at a club, put REAL name on it.

  1. Should Prospect field an U20 instead of an U18 team?

Simple answer, no. If they did get accepted then their team should be disqualified from any silverware if they managed that feat.
If they haven't already even push some juniors that are around the 14/15 age group up to fill the void.

    Or promote their club more.

It's a dog eat dog world and just because the Victory League is around, rules and regulations shouldn't be compromised for a clubs lack of activity in their local area.

  2. Interesting problem this one, As in the FFT rules, It states that if 1 club can not field an under 18's comp then they must pull out of the senior competion because you have to have the two prodominant leagues filled. I know you can get away with out having a reserves side but not an U18 or senior team.

  3. I believe the proposal if for prospect to play for no points in an under 20's league. But in saying that fft needed to have a better structure in place because a lot of other clubs are struggling for numbers also. Perhaps an under 19's league would be appropriate to correspond with the South?

  4. A lot of clubs will be feeling the pinch. Especially if you have some younger players that should be playing in your Senior or Reserve side to gain more experience, but they cant because there is a lack of numbers for the Under 18s.

Its a big call to continually ask these same kids to play 2 games every week.

I know some people will say that they did it back in the good old days, but its a completely different ball game these days.

  5. why not make an u16 comp instead? So players can play at a younger age and be playing in reserves at 17+

  6. Why not have an u16 league and scrap u18's? That way younger kids get involved with club football earlier (13yr olds) and 17-18 yr olds can play reserves. I'm sure most clubs can field an u16 team

    1. What would happen to the not so confident and smaller 16-18yr olds, especially coming up against some of the bigger reserve men?

  7. there already is a strong under 14 and under 16 comp at club level
if they cant field a team they will have to sit this year out and recruit for next year

  8. I recall this issue being raised on this site about 6 months ago and Anton didn't treat it very seriously. How did all that work out? The fact that clubs like this don't plan, has the potential to effect all of us. We need all clubs firing to ensure the ongoing viability of the competition. In my opinion it's time all senior clubs took a greater interest in their junior feeder system, and stopped taking things for granted. North Launceston Eagles stop at under 16 and go no further. There's a heads up for you Anton if someone up on the hill is prepared to put some effort in. I'd be happy to help you set something like that up if you're interested.

  9. The Victory League NPL teams are allowed to play 3 'over-age' or 'stalwart' players in addition to the 5 that come back from the Victory League squad. So, do those 3 stalwart players need to to be named before the start of the season? Do they have to be the same 3 players for the duration of the season? Or is it just a matter of picking 3 'over-age' each week which can be different from the previous week/s?

  10. Questions from the South:
Why doesn't the NPL have U20's?
    Isn't that the FFA model?

Either way, there is no circumstance whereby a player can play UNDER their age group (except for individual cases ie medical condition or disability).

FFT should not allow it as the precedent is dangerous.

    1. All northern club presidents agreed that the league should only be under 18 this year as most clubs will field several under 16's to make up numbers, thats partly why the Prospect request is not great.

  11. More importatnly why would anyone agree to Prospects demands. From what I hear they never attend Northern club meetings and in fact the only time Anton has shown his face has been the meeting held the Monday after they won the league in 2011.

They have generally shown no respect to the comp and think they are above the rules. Piss them off I say and make it an 8 team comp.

  12. I think most people are aware there has always been 1 too many teams in Launceston for a few years now. While there is strong numbers in juniors, there is a lack of retention. While I dont think anyone would like to see any teams go, is it going to come to this anyway?

The introduction of the State league has turned the NPL Launceston teams into simple feeder clubs now, is that sustainable? I don't think so

Relegation must be brought in for the good of Football in Launceston specifically, something along the lines of if a northern team finishes last, then the NPL winner plays in a playoff to get in and Vise Versa if a southern team finishes last

  13. Why do Prospect knights only have two home games in the first round
And 6 games in a row last round , in the middle of winter, grounds should be in great condition
