Burnie United to go pink for a good cause

It will be a sea of pink at Montello tomorrow with Burnie jumping on the McGrath foundation. With all mens team wearing pink and black stripped socks and the women who also play on Saturday will be wearing a full pink kit.

Club president Darlene Jaques said the club would be trying to raise at least $500 for the foundation and will be also having lucky balloons for sale on the day.

This is a great thing to be held by the club and i personally tip my hat to the club for doing it.

Launceston City V Prospect Knights 2pm Mitsubishi Park
This match has rivalry written all over it. Both clubs share a fence,the hatred for each other is massive and add that Prospect have lost 2 of their senior players to City this year will just ass more fuel to the fire.
Both clubs are struggling and are slipping away from the leading pack. City had its first win last week and now know what it tastes like to win.
Prospect on the other hand have had a bad start to the season after loosing key players through injury and aged players hanging up the boots.
Prospect sit only on 2 wins for the year and sit 2 points above City and will want to extend thier gap on them. The real eye opener is if the Knights do beat City and Rangers stumble against Riverside, The Knights will only be 1 point out of the top 4.
Ray Heald said this"Going into tomorrow games with same starting 11 from last week first time for the season, the senior group has trained well this week, hopefully that form carry’s into Saturdays game   , the commitment from the core group has been great considering  our run of injuries and players unavailability.

 

Mitch Duffy and Trent Mitchell play their second game for the season this week, both players had an impact in the second half last week against Riverside, when moved forward, Mark baker had a big influence in the game when coming on in the second half.

 

Tomorrow’s game could be a decided by the Goal keepers, young Jye Balym keeping for City With Dad Nathan Balym Keeping for Prospect, can imagine the banter at home.

Launceston United V Somerset Sharks 2:30pm Birch Ave
Launceston will have another daunting task this week in hosting the fresh Somerset out fit after having the bye. United should have some of its suspended players back this week which will strengthen their depleted side. Somerset will be on a high after the last game scoring 12 goals and will be looking to slaughter United as well.
Chris Smith who usually is in the sticks for the Sharks scored 5 in his last outing and will start on the field again. Steven Treloar has proved he is the keeper he was when he left the game 6 years ago to play AFL. This gives the Sharks another avenue to goals with the experienced Smith.
Club president Nigel Brown said this"Probably missing Elliott and Ross Smith this weekend so Micky Forsyth and. Andrew Wilcox will come in
With us and Olympic fighting it out it may come down to goal difference so we are keen to have our forwards firing this Saturday
Boys are keen to do well after the bye and no games next weekend

They are enjoying being at the top end of the ladder as against the last 2 years at the bottom
Women are full strength and looking for 2 in a row against United on Sunday

There is so much at steak this week in all games and probably this one that matters most to start shaping the top 4. United sit a game and a bit behind the Reds who have been the team in form over the last few weeks and making 3 wins in a row.
Burnie will welcome back Brodie Best this week and the combination of Best and Stuart Batt is one Ulverstone will have to shut down if they want to take the 3 points home with them. Brad Ryan has been a rock in between the sticks and the likes of the Meaney brothers

Rangers V Riverside 2:30pm SUNDAY NTCA
This is another clash with high importance. Riverside are the bench mark this year and the Rangers find them selves 2 points adrift of the top 4. Rangers have been hit hard from the get go with the V League playing a big factor with the NPL squad. One must ask are these the right rules by FFT, Yes they suit the Southern Leagues but defiantly not the NPL.

This game would be a great spectacle on how the NPL should be played. A high fast passing and attacking game. Both coaches are full of confidence and they both has this to say. Rangers coach Brendan Litchendonk"Playing top of the table comes with its own set of pressure, but there will be plenty of pressure on Riverside to maintain top spot now they are there, and no one would back us in to win this one, so we are happy to go in as under dogs.

Bitterly disappointed to get a touch up last week to Ulverstone, but credit to them, they are good side with an eye for goal, and we cant hit a barn door with a beach ball at the moment.

We have a young inexperienced forward line, they need some time to find their feet at this level, but we are confident these guys will serve us well in the future, so they will get the time they need, we are creating opportunities in every game, in fact more than enough, but when you miss open goals from 5 metres out, well its not too hard to see what we need to do better.

We will take Gabe Tams out of the starting line up this week as he has not been able to train all week, Jack Harrison will start and he looked comfortable when he came on so I have confidence in him.

Nearly everyone is claiming to be fit, but we will resist the urge to start players who have been out injured, for safety and for match practice reasons.

Adam McIntyre, Dylan Headland, Gabe Tams and Ayden Demeijer are all recovering from injuries but will all play some part, but we wont go throwing on 4 guys returning from injury into one starting line up.

With regards to Riverside, I have not seen them play, but we just have to fine tune our style of play, and if we can do that better this week, there is no reason why we cant give them an upset on our home turf on Sunday at the NTCA.

Again, our line up will be finalised after we know who plays on Saturday in the Victory League, but there will be some changes from last week.

Riverside can take top spot

This week Wayne Penfolds troops can stamp their authority on the league and go a game clear at the top with Somerset having the bye. Burnie could be sitting in the 4 if Ulverstone and the Rangers draw and at Mitsubishi Park it will be the battle of the cellar dwellers and if City win they equal United on points.

Devonport V Burnie United 2:30 pm Valley Road

Burnie United will be looking to get their season back on track with an away win to Devonport. United had the week off last week and will be fresh and ready to fire early. After watching them against the Rangers Burnie look as if they have a new game style and working a treat. Andy Gibson will no doubt be a work horse that he is known for and with his left hand man Trent Potts in the mix Burnie should control the midfield. If Brad Ryan is on song it will be 3 points for United.

Launceston City V Launceston United 2:30 pm Mitsubishi Park
City will no doubt be looking to rebound after last weeks thrashing by the Sharks. The game didn't really reflect the score line. Yes Somerset were good but in patches Citys formation and game plan worked and looked really good. City looked really strong in the back line with veteran Roger Mies controlling the ship. Add Launceston United having three players sent off last week and City will know they are in with a chance.

Ulverstone V Rangers 2:30 pm Ulverstone show ground
Apart from the out come of the Riverside V Prospect game. This would be the game of the round. Both clubs fighting at the moment to cement thier place in the top 4. Ulverstone had a strong win last week away from home and would be feeling very confiedent that they can match the Rangers at home. John Wood and Kiren Meaney have been the avenue to goal for the Reds so far this year and Ulverstone will be looking for these guys to fire.
The Rangers know how important this game is for the club and the team at the end of the year, Rangers play a very fast attractive passing game and on their day could punish any team in the competition. Rangers coach would of had his boys up and about this week at training and would have drilled into his players head how important this game is. Add 2 new signings to the starting 11 and it could be a happy trip back to Launceston Saturday night. Brendan Litchendonk said this"This week we travel to Ulverstone for a tough match against a resurgent Reds.

I caught their game against Prospect last week and was impressed with what Stuart Mack has put together given the concerns at the start of the year.  Some boys have obviously returned who have been missing in the last couple of years, and that is a terrific thing for Ulverstone, a club I have a soft spot for, but that will go hard on Saturday, given we want to win.

Laing looked super in the middle for them against Knights, and they have some pace up front, so we will work to counter these things, and couple of other moments in their game.  Our forward three will need to be clinical as Smith in goals for them will be hard to beat.

We lost Adam McIntyre before kick off last week with a quad tare, realistically I knew he wouldn't get up as he had been sore for a couple of days, we put him through the test before kick off and it was evident he was no good, that caused a bit of a re shuffle at the last minute, as we are bare bones at the moment with the ridiculous restrictions on us, and I think City suffered dearly to these rules against Somerset as well.  But that is a story for another day.

As a result we have signed two new players this week to the club, Lewis Fazackerly from Beachside and Jack Harrison from Tilford Zebras, both these lads will provide that depth we are craving at the moment, and it looks as though Dylan Headland might be ready for an early return next week too, all of these lads have looked really sharp at training and I know they are chomping at the bit to get out there, so we are starting to get back to where we should have been at the start of the year.

Final line up wont be known until after Friday's Victory League clash with City, but we know basically who we have, baring another injury at training.

Ulverstone will be tough, but we need to go there for 3 points, as the draw on Saturday did neither us nor Devonport any good, only two wins to this point of the year is not good enough, so the boys know we must start winning.

Riverside V Prospect 2:30 pm Windsor Park

In a must win game for Olympic,They will have to pass the hurdle of Prospect.Even if the Knights are not travelling well they still will put a fight up against the undefeated Riverside.Christopher Wademan had been a wrecking ball and causing headaches this year for all clubs leading the goal scoring wit 10 goals and Todd Mitchell is chasing him down with 6. 16 goals between to players is massive and the Knights will have to shut these 2 down to atleast stop the goals but the flow to the forward line is massive too. Ray Heald aid this"

Injuries and availabilities have had a huge impact on the seniors this year so far, with only three players, playing every game.

 

Two  players back in this week Trent Mitchell, Mitch Duffy, our effort last week against Ulverstone was very disappointing, and will need to improve vastly, if we are to be competitive against Riverside undefeated this year.

Wayne Penfold is proving he has the team to go all the way this year and that his coaching skills are up there with the best, He had this to say"This week we face Prospect who are somewhat of a bogey side for us. I felt that the game we played against them last year was the worst performance we have put together in the last 18 months. That’s been a motivation for us this week on the track.

A win this week will see us take the lead at the top of the table as current leaders Somerset have the bye this week. It’s all irrelevant at this time of the year though as we haven’t even reached the half way mark of the season. It’s a great position to be in, but there is plenty of action left in the season.

 Matthew Chapman returns to the side and Matthew Youd makes way and will have a run in the Reserves.

City look to end derby drought

The Victory League’s northern rivalry will heat up again this Friday night, with the second match of the 2014 Launceston Mitsubishi and Launceston Mazda Derby Cup between Northern Rangers and Launceston City.

Northern Rangers host Launceston City in the second match of their best of three Derby Cup series, to kick off Round 8 of the Victory League. City must win the match to keep the Derby Cup alive, after falling 4-1 to the Rangers in game one of the series earlier this year.

Since the Victory League’s inception, while there has been a competitive rivalry between the clubs, the Northern Rangers have held a strong winning record up against their northern counterparts, defeating them 5-0, 7-0, 6-0 and 4-1 in their four meetings. 

This weekend, Launceston City will look to end the derby drought and down the Rangers for the first time in the Victory League.

Launceston City went winless in the competition last season but the club have made significant in-roads this season with four points to their name after the first round of fixtures, including their historic first Victory League win over Tilford Zebras in round five. This week they will be looking to create further club history and clinch their first win up against their bitter rivals, to keep the battle for the Derby Cup alive going into their last meeting in July later this year.

City struck first against South Hobart last week, opening scoring inside a minute through Mark Cristy and although they eventually went down Kurt Reynolds' squad will draw confidence from netting two past last season’s champions.

City welcome back skipper Nathan Bartlett from suspension for the derby, as well as Chris Hill who was also out with a red card from their round six loss to Glenorchy Knights.

Northern Rangers are second on the Victory League table and are five points behind South Hobart, meaning every result could prove critical to their tilt for the 2014 title. A win for the Rangers would also secure them the inaugural Launceston Mitsubishi and Launceston Mazda Derby Cup.

The match kicks off this Friday night from 7:00PM at Northern Rangers home ground NTCA.
