Rangers have a lot to play for this week

Rangers V Devonport 1pm Saturday NTCA
Rangers host Devonport in a do or die game for the club. A win will keep them firmly in the 4 but a slip up and they could find them selves just in the 4 with Burnie and Prospect a point behind.
Rangers have had problems this year with selections due to V League and only allowed to pich 3 starwalt players. Coach Litchtendonk said this"Devonport is always a tough match, Victory League, Premier League, any where we play them, its a hard slog, so we expect more of the same.

Devonport's form coming into this match has been super, I was able to catch a little bit of their match last week against Prospect, and its not for good luck that they are third on the table.

Its a must win, our passing speed and accuracy must improve this week to stand a chance, the one good thing is we will basically put the same team on the park as last week against Burnie, and in our situation, that is a very rare set of circumstances.  By rights we should have players coming back into the squad with McCarragher and Hingston back into the Victory League squad, but injuries to Josh Burk and Ayden Demeijer mean we wont get any extra support this week.

That's not all together a bad thing, as some players are applying their trade to new roles in the team, and two weeks in a row with the same line up will do everyone the world of good.

I was happy with parts of our game against Burnie, but we must move the ball much quicker, I just cant stress to our lads how important our ball speed is in our combination play, if we take our time, everything we are working on goes out the window, we don't want to rush, we just need to be decisive, Devonport will play like this on Saturday we expect.

Mike McKenna will take up our No 1 role to get some time into his hands, Zac Chugg has been superb for us in goal so far this year, but the whole team will benefit from Mike's presence this week in terms of his communication and distribution.

There all must wins, but this is a 6 pointer, and a loss will see us lose touch with the top three.

Somerset V Launceston City 2:30pm Shark Park

Somerset will need to win this one at home after some what throwing a point or even a win last week. Jeremy DeBomford has had his troops go through their paces during the week and will be fired up to prove that they are still title contenders. Kyrone Johnson will be back this week after having to work last week. Josh Goodwin will be out for a few weeks with a hamstring strain.
"Coach DeBomford said this" After last weeks loss we will be looking to restructure our forward line and capitalise on the chances we are creating. A few of the younger lads will be dropped this week as we look to strengthen our side. Last week we had enough of the ball and created many chances but due to some outstanding saves from their keeper and our discipline in front of goals denied us the win.

Launceston United V Riverside 2:30 pm Burch Ave

Even with Launceston having a home game this week Riverside will be to strong and will look to keep their winning record in tac. Riverside now have the title favourites hanging over their head and will be accepting every challenge that comes with that title. United will have to double team Christopher Wademan as he is the league leader in goals and will be looking to further his lead tomorrow.
United have gained the services of Alex Rossetto who has been linked with Hobart Olyimpia V League squad and played for Launceston City V League last year.
Wayne Penfolds expectations are hi and said this"Launceston United is going to be a tough game this week. Our result last week against Somerset won’t mean anything unless we can back up for a win on Saturday. United have recently recruited Alex Rossetto from Olympia’s V-League squad and he will add extra strength to a squad that has already been bolstered this year. They are an improving outfit and will pose a threat, but we have the belief



within the squad and I expect us to come out on top.

 

We have Nick Meldrum missing through suspension but Taylor Neilson is available after suspension himself. Matt Chapman will come back through the Reserves after missing last week through injury. Otherwise we have a clean bill of health and have trained the house down this week. The players enjoyed the win last week, but are well aware that the hard work starts now.

Prospect V Ulverstone 2:30pm Prospect Park (SUNDAY)

Prospect were hit hard last week and will be looking to rebound pretty hard to redeem the selves. A loss here and will have them virtually miss out on the top 4 after making it last year. The Knights will be looking to their more senior players to get them across the line. Mark Baker and the likes of the Balym brothers would be seething at the teeth last week and would have told the juniors through the week it is not acceptable to loose like that. Ray Heald would of had his boys training hard for this week and should get across the line. He had this to say"Two players back in the seniors this week Mitchell Chugg, Xuechen Zhang, last week losses against Devonport were very disappointing for the club.

 

Players availability and commitment have had a impact on the club this year,  will be interesting to see how some players react after last week results.

Who Will Be On Top After This Round?

Match of the round is played at Windsor park tomorrow with Riverside hosting Somerset and both clubs are undefeated.
Riverside are coming off two weeks of byes and will be firing on all cylinders. Olympic and Wayne Penfold will be happy with where the club is at the moment after the wheels falling off the cart last year. One would think if they can get across the against the Sharks tomorrow they would have to be the title contenders.

Somerset will have to shut down the leagues marks man if they want to have a chance. Wayne Penfold said this"After 2 byes in 3 weeks we are champing at the bit to take on the current champions Somerset this week. It should be a cracking match with both teams undefeated at this stage of the season.

 

As the Champions, the Sharks would probably be the favourites for the match, but we think we match up well against them and will try and take the game up to them. Somerset have quality players across the park, but so do we, and we want to prove ourselves against the best teams in the competition.

 

There is a fitness concern over Matt Chapman leading into the game, so he will be assessed on Saturday morning to see if he will start. Taylor Neilson will be forced to watch as he completes his suspension, but Mitch Jones returns to the Senior line-up this week after a trundle in the Reserves.

 

We are expecting a big crowd to turn up for the game, so hopefully the game will live up to the expectations of a top of the table clash.

Somerset are still with out a few of their senior players but over the weeks have shown the juniors are up to the task. Especially led by Josh Goodwin and Kiren Whitehouse.

President Nigel Brown said this"Coach Jeremy DeBomford still out with bad knee also Kyrone Johnson leading scorer is out due to wok commitments and have dropped Micky Forsyth to ressies to bring young speedster Nick Freeman into defence.

Burnie United V Northern Rangers

Burnie are at home again and so far this season are undefeated there. It is becoming a fortress and hard to knock down. Burnie are starting to get the name back that they held many years ago as strong club and you can never get a win at Montello. United are at full strengh and will be firing on all cylinders against the Rangers.

The Rangers will be out to get redemption after a few bad rounds and tyring to keep their toop 4 chances alive. Coach litchtendonk said this"A tough match always away to Burnie, and a club that seem to be on the up this year.

We always expect a physical game against the Emu's.

The two weeks off hasn't helped us, with injuries, suspensions and work commitments to the Victory League, leaving us thin on the ground again this week.

James Ower comes back to centre back after a week off, and apart from that we are close to where we were against Prospect two weeks ago.

We just need to start finishing chances now, we are doing the rest of our things pretty well, so putting the ball in the  back of the net more times than our opposition will be helpful.

Devonport v Prospect

Prospect will be looking to keep their winning ways when they travel to Valley Road. Prospect have been getting the job done under coach Ray Heald and had this to say"4 plays 3 should be a good game, three senior players missing this week thru work commitments, and with three seniors still out injured starting to stretch the senior group for numbers, Greg Duffy still a few weeks away brother Mitch Duffy should be back any week now.

 

Liam Jarvis and Rhys Kinslow back into seniors this week Sam Copper in for his first senior start, this  gives an opportunity for under eighteen lads to fill some holes in reserves and seniors.

Prospect should be too strong and singing their club song all the way home.

Ulverstone V Launceston United

This is a match that could go either way After the Reds holding Somerset to a goalless second half in the last round they will be looking to roll United and start moving up the table.

We are 5 rounds in and some great questions are being asked around the clubs and answers would be great.

Should the NPL go independent, saving clubs thousands of dollars and have a ship load of players return due to Regos being cheaper?
