City just pip Somerset to go through

It was a battle of David and Goliath today as City host Somerset at Mitsubishi Park. The first 25 minutes was an even affair and it showed that the Somerset youngsters has what it takes to mix it with the best. Somerset would be upset with then selves after having two great opportunities to take the lead only to enter half time one nil down due to a rebound from a free kick.
After the break the Sharks replied to make it one all. After a bit of see sawing and both teams could have taken the lead, City drew the next blood making it 2-1. With time running out City were reward a dubious penalty and some would have tought they were at the diving Olyimpics instead. City converted to make it 3-1 final score.
The question I have to ask is there really that much difference between the V League and NPL. Due to the fact a V League was at full strength and an NPL team was only half???
Haters will hate but facts are true.....
Any more scores would be muchly appreciated.

It was a double header today at Mitsubishi Park with a game to follow with both V League clubs the Rangers and Hobart Olyimpia kicking off at 4pm. After the Rangers had been written of south of Cambell Town, they proved they have the goods and the players to be a real threat this year after beating southern summer cup winner and one of the big clubs from the south 3-0. Rangers were up 2-0 thanks to their new import Adam Edward.
After the brake Olyimpia had no chance with Edward finishing off his hat trick in style.

  1. Obviously City isn't the 'best' as put by you. Yes there would be a difference between Victory League and Northern Premier League. I imagine the top Victory League clubs would give Somerset a bit of a touch up.

It's the same case as the EPL and the Championship. Leicester and Burnley this year would probably beat a few of the bottom clubs of the EPL. Naturally Somerset would be near City quality, given City were last and Somerset were champs of the division below.

  2. Annon 121 you are a clown, yeah we all know city are not the best but it is a term used and used well by Coxy. I couldn't care less about Juventus or Somerset but I tell you what, if somerset had there so called 4 or 5 that were missing from today well it may have been different. Juventus won but not the best team.
What the hell is their goal keeper about? Sooked all day and their forward line were like swans today diving and screaming every time the ball went near them. Poor example of football and if that's how they will be for the rest of the year well it's going to be long

  4. Haha you must have been watching the wrong game? If city had of taken there chances the game would have been over in the first 30 mins. Fair play to somerset they never gave up but please don't make it out like they dictated the play. City were the better team.

    Juve Till I Die!

    1. Juve are crap and will finish second last this year if not last. It's actually Launceston City too looser.
But hey if that's were the sun shines find the glory hole.

  5. The city somerset match was great to watch. Somerset had nothing to lose and this was city's first real test. Scoreline flatters somerset to be honest. The first 20 minutes showed the technical gap between the victory league and npl. City camped themselves in Somerset's half and created 4 or 5 clear cur chances, which at this level should have been taken. The longer the half went, it became a bit scrappy due to Somerset's physicality and this continued for the rest of the game. Somerset showed little technically but were dangerous on the break thru the long ball, you can say whatever you like about ' what if we had these our regular players' but at the end of the day city can only play whoever turns up on the day. City created at least 8 clear cut chances and on a better day the scoreline might have been 5 -1. Best of luck to both clubs for the season ahead.

    1. I agree with this the quality of football was very different city tried to knock it around and play football while Somerset where looking for long balls and counter attacks. I can not stand city personally but that is the old city that squad on the park is a hole new city to the point so much at the end of the game instead of singing the traditional juve club song they played music full volume i'm not sure what song it was but you could hear the team up and about from anywhere in the ground ,they will be the big surprise this year

  6. In reply to anon 2.03

So if Launceston City aren't Juve .. Juve = Juventus can't be that bad since they are well clear in the Serie A?

Launceston City yes may finish second last or last or third last if lucky.

  7. So now your referring City to the actual Juventus. You really are a joke. No wonder City can't win a game. There heads are in the clouds and can't see the ball.
    WANNA BE's.

  8. City played football, Somerset played something from the Wimbledon play book of the 1980’s, long balls, if you can’t win the ball make sure you collect the man, etc., etc. Playing that brand of football no doubt puts sides under pressure and can/will bring results short term but at the end of the day the side that can knock the ball around, play between the lines, get numbers into the box when attacking/defending, it’s as simple as brains over brawn.
What is all this about players missing, please give it a rest, you play what’s in front of you, sometimes the side you face may be down on its starting eleven, that usually means someone else comes in and if they want to say in they have a point to prove so please let’s all of us stop reaching for the “we had player’s not available” card.
As for this City of old nonsense, how far do you want to go back? There are only a handful of players left from last year, you can’t make comparisons, didn’t see too much arrogance last year, let’s not forget the side collected one point, not surprised they didn’t sing the song with that many new players on board this year, I have a suspicion that come season’s end they will have belted it out a few times.

    1. Yet another stupid response from a city person, Or is it now called Launceston Open Cheque Book???It is pathetic you guys cant even admit that you suck even with an open book.
I reckon just to shut every one up both clubs should meet when the semi finals are being played and play again then who ever looses should harden up and get on with it, Yep don't like either club...

    2. Yet again another reference to the past, an ignorant uninformed reference. All the V-League clubs have to hand over their books to the FFT and the end of season in a similar fashion to the AFL, NRL and so on to their respective commissioners. If the implication of “Launceston Open Cheque Book” referrers to player payments how does that differ to any club currently participating in the NPL/SPL either prior to the creation of the Victory League or since? Can you seriously be that naive to make such acquisitions and somehow not be pointing your ill-informed finger at every other club in the state? Is every other club in the state reading from the same almighty scriptures you appear to be prophesying from and this one club is allegedly breaking your high held yet misinformed belief? I think not.

  9. If clubs have money and are willing to offer incentives then why is that a bad thing?

Ps. No one has said Launceston City are any good on here.

  12. Great photo and story in todays Advocate, cheers Ben. Interesting to note that 7 of the 16 aren't back this year, like Ulvie, we have been team rebuilding again. Unlike Ulvie. our numbers are looking great lets hope they stay that way.
Good luck to all clubs for Saturday, lets hope we get some fine weather and understanding refs.

    1. No worries Nigel. Had to piece something together at late notice, as well as keep to an even smaller word count than last year.
      What's an understanding referee?
Hooefully we can get up over our southern opponents today and the coastal teams can give the launy teams a touch up. In the case of Devonport and Ulverstone, I'm hoping for a draw haha
