Weekend Results

NPL

Ulverstone 11 def Devonport 3

Somerset 1 were leading Riverside 0 until game called off

Rangers 3 were leading Prospect 0 until game was called off

Launceston City v Launceston United Cancelled

This makes me wonder what FFT will do now as the season has to weeks of catch up games so far with 2 rounds to go.
Another though is for the teams that travell away on the bus and get to the ground and have the game called off. Will FFT subsidies the cost having to travell again or will they just say the winning team at the time takes the 3 points?
Will be interesting few days at the FFT head quarters......

V League

Glenorchy 0 lost to Devonport 2

Tilford Zebras 3 beat Rangers 1

Update for catch up games
It seems that fft are allowing all catch up games to be played. So ATM the season will continue until Saturday the 31st of August pending that there are no mores games called off. At this stage and judging by the weather stations there could be a few more games cancelled. So I am thinking the finals series may be cancelled.
My comments are only hear say so if any one can back what I'm posting or know anything else please keep us all up to date!!!

  1. Full credit to Ref Spicer for stopping the game when he did. It was the right thing to do.

  2. big win by Ulverstone!

why where the games called off? was it the ground turning to shit, or weather conditions?

  3. NTCA pitch was bad by the end of reserves. It was a swamp by half time in seniors.

  4. Same as Windsor Park, but I congratulate the refs for at least trying to play the game too!!!

    1. Some years ago if the game was played for 65 minutes the result stood unless the rules have changed since.

    2. Yes PC, you are correct and still are. But I was told Saturday by a very powerful person with in the football world. That in certain cercimstances results can be ruled if a team was winning on the day, I.e finals series to be played before other comps. Playing an extra week would put the finals series another week back and by my calculations would have the final would be played the same day as fft dinner.

  5. FFT advice today is that the competition rules state any match must go for at least 2 thirds of its normal time to be a match. Therefore both Lonnie matches will have to be replayed.
Finals are still up in air until closer to end of season as more games may be cancelled, if not then it MAYBE only a 2 round finals series. Time and weather will tell.

  6. I think 2 round finals series is the best solution for everything, 3 round just seems quite strange

  7. 1st v 4th- 1st home ground advantage
    2nd v 3rd- 2nd home ground advantage

    Winners play in the Final.

Why do you need 3 weeks..??

Excuse my ignorance, but what was the format for the 3 week finals series?

    1. I don't think there was ignorance in your statement, what I was led to believe at the start of the year was.
      1. You have a minor premier that will revive a cup
      2. The prize money would go to the winner of the finals
      3. Three weeks of finals

      Week 1.
1st v 2nd at 1st home ground (winner strait through)

      3rd v 4th looser out

      2nd week
      Looser of 1st v 2nd and winner of 3rd v 4th(winner through)

      3rd week
      Grand final

This would give 1st and 2nd a double chance. But like most very confused on what's happening now

    2. What you were lead to believe is correct Sam...always has been as you stated and I don't think that should change to suit circumstances. When Rangers and City grounds were not available they were made to play in Hobart and if that was Ok then the same should apply to the other leagues where possible.

    3. Couldn't agree more Pete, but as it is starting to show we are now a second tier league and are fastly being put aside or forgotten about, I'm pretty sure it's only the good work of our presidents that they even remember we are here!!!

    4. PC are you seriously suggesting that two NPL sides go to Hobart to play each other??

  8. Definitely not my friend. All I mean is that they use another available ground in the North or Northwest and this was done in occasions in the past.

    1. Sorry, yes fair enough point. The knights v rangers game was already switched to ntca. It was actually a knights home fixture. I doubt that there was any ground in Launceston that was playable on Saturday afternoon though. It will be interesting to see what happens this weekend as there is more rain forecast for tomorrow.

  9. Ulverstone's pitch at the Showground isn't the most perfect playing surface but it has held up well under heavy rains. It has previously been used as an alternative when other pitches are unplayable. Burnie United's field is also pretty resilient and has the added benefit of floodlights. Either of these two grounds would enable FFT to be creative and flexible when rescheduling games.
