Hobart Olympia just shade Devonport in Victory League trial match.

Devonport hosted Hobart Olympia today in a trial match at Valley Road.

Both team fielded strong teams, as you would expect considering Olympia made the three and a half hour trip for the match.

It was Devonport early in the game who led the scoring through Daniel Mcginn and new signing Ben Foote and Devonport held the lead until about the 70th minute mark.

Late in the game Devonport experimented with the line-up and it seems to have cost them the game, with Olympia Warriors running over the Strikers in the last 15 minutes to score three late goals and eventually win 3-2.

Devonport assistant coach Nick Owen was pleased with the hit out, and said “ We were two up with 15 or 20 to go and changed it up a bit late in the game and conceded some soft goals.”

In the earlier kick off, Devonport’s Premier League team played Olympia Warriors Premier League team and another close game was fought out, but again the visitors came away with a narrow 1 goal win, getting over Devonport 3-4 by the final whistle.

  1. Devonport have 1 good defender now. chillcott is center back with gratton is a bad pairing. Chillcot should of been sent off

  2. Olympia were the better side despite trailing 1-0 at half time. The second Devonport goal was an own goal headed in by an Olympia player from the corner. Olympia's three goals were quality, not soft. If Owen was happy with his team's performance he can expect to get beaten again next time the teams play. Olympia also made numerous changes and had 5 players 17 or younger on the ground at one stage. The bus left Hobart at 7AM. Tsakiris, Fielding and Meredith did not make the trip.

  3. Sent off for what? Making a strong attack on the ball!! I'm sure that Devonport will bring good physical soccer to the league.

    1. For nearly breaking his leg! Sliding in from behind, studs up in a FRIENDLY. So stupid, wonder if he said sorry.

    2. I got tackled from an Olympia player that was studs up, no ball and all ankle and he didn't receive even a talking to from the ref. And it was probably the same degree of tackle, just that I didn't roll around on the ground!

  4. After all it is called a trial or more correctly a practice match to help clubs to select their Vleague teams and for players to get some match practice.Early days for every club and looks like early unnecessary comments as well.
As for the game I was not there so I cannot comment.

    1. Welcome to state league, you only have to cast an eye over Walters blog and see the love each club has for one and another, it will be a long year if you have thin skin in the Victory League.

  5. We, not I, were happy that we did some things well that we had been working on in training and now we have identified things we need to get better at. That's all we need to see in practice matches. What were you hoping for from a match played on the 2nd of Feb?

  7. Olympia had more of the ball in the first half agreed but didn't look dangures that's why they went 1 nil down on the first half after being 2 nil up and in control of the match for 75 mins Devonport made quite a few changers and put some young guys in the middle of the park. Olympia push for the win later as any team would and devonport couldn't hold them out well played out game I thought. As for the red on Chilcott from we're I was standing looked like all ball to be
