Referees

I know that most times when a referee gets a mention on here it is to take the Mickey out of him or them. But this time I would like to thank fft and the referee who was in the centre for the Devonport v Knights game. It's not very often they get credit but Simon who was sent up from Hobart deserves credit. In all the games I have played over the years I have never seen such a referee like him. If we are worried about refs that will be doing the V league next year fear not any more. For some one from Hobart to be able to call every one in that game and I am guessing every game he does by each players first name and even the juniors who were in their second or third game was brilliant. No I'm not in love with him but as I say credit where credit is due. The game was never interrupted by Dubois calls and when a call was made he was more than happy to tell the player in question why. So if you do read this blog Simon, thanks again mate.....

  1. You are spot on there Sam. If there is one piece of advice that all referees/assistants should take on board from this is that if you expect to receive respect from all players you must first be seen to show respect to the players yourself. Some of the best referees there have ever been were those that could relate to each and every player on the park and speak to them like human beings, not speak DOWN to them - Jack Johnston, Matthew Buck, Ross Logan, Kim Barker to name just a few during my time as a player that were perfect examples of this. So, well done Simon and let's hope we see you up this way in the future.

  4. He has done a number of Ranger games over the last couple of years and always does a great job. I was talking to him at the NTCA, and is moving up here in the near future and is looking forward to the Victory League next season

  6. To call every player by their first name is great, shows alot more respect than thinking they can call you by your nickname. Did a great job.

  7. He is considered one of the worst in hobart so i am sure you will be thrilled with the rest of the ref talent you will witness in the Victory league.

  8. He is the best referee that I have seen for a while. Have to agree with Snow's comments in regards to respect.

The arrogance/ignorance of the older referee's is disgraceful. The manner and tone in which they talk to the players is pathetic. Then they wonder why the players get shitty.

FFT need to get Simon to be the referees coach across the State so he can teach the up and comers.

  9. Simon Natoli. Look at the highlights for Central Coast Mariners vs TAS (He is one of the Assistant Refs). I don't think he is considered one of the worst in Hobart. Each ref brings a different personality and that influences areas of their refereeing. His man management skills are particularly commendable and something all refs need. He also doesn't have an ego (Refer to Snowy's comment). Great man, great ref.
