  1. Are Somerset knocking on the door of an unlikely State Championship finals birth? Ulverstone must defend their place in the top four with games against challenger Launceston City, then the unenviable task against Devonport, a fixture against Riverside Olympic, who still have a good chance if results go their way and finish with Northern Rangers, a match that could decide the premiership and their own fate I reckon Ulvie need 4 points to stay there as a bare minimum.

It all builds well and confirms the State Wide Championship series as the best concept in many years.

We now see fourth through to seventh still alive and kicking for finals success, while the top three, well a mouth-watering couple of months await us all.

Rangers face Somerset, Devonport and Ulverstone

Devonport have Riverside, Ulverstone Rangers and Knights

Knights the easiest run home with Launceston, riverside, Launceston City and then the Crunch game with Devonport.

Anyones guess up there, none of the teams would be planning any celebrations just yet I wouldnt have thought.

My tips from here for last place in the finals:

Ulverstone should get 4 points out of a possible 12, will it be enough for a date with Ken?
Best case scenario for City I think will be 3 points to leave them on 18. A much better year but no finals.

Somerset to get at least 6 points (Burnie, Ranger and Launceston) might yet surprise us all and get all 9 and close the door on Rangers at the same time, if that happens, they will surely get in, what a turnaround if they do.

Riverside have to play 2 of the top 3 and best they can hope for would be 4 points, though their target will surely be 9 from their last 4 matches, don’t think it will be enough either.

Burnie with a win this week were a chance, now that has gone, can only groom the club for next year.

Launceston? Could they get a point? I hope they do.

  2. Great summary Captain Australia. It's great to see so many clubs still have things to play for, be it the title for the top 3 , or a finals berth for the next 4. Best of luck to all in the run home.

  3. Imagine that, travelling all the way to the coast, to face Kens merry men, who are smashing all and sundry at the moment by 5 goals or more. Conditions don't make a difference.

In saying that, South will have to lose sometime, but from where I sit, everyone is playing to make the final, once the finals start.

The interesting thing is, its almost an advangtage to finish 3rd than second. Finish 3rd and win you play either the first placed NPL team away,or the 4th placed southern team at home.

Finish 2nd and win, your going to South Hobart
