Match Report Ulverstone v Somerset

The game started well for Ulverstone. Joel Stone earned a penalty after about 5 minutes, which was well taken by Ben Foote. Ulverstone went 2 up after about 20 minutes after Michael Grey finished a one on one well past the Somerset keeper. Ulverstone could have been 3 or 4 in front had we been confident and clinical. A pivotal substitution was made whilst Somerset were two down. John Wheeler took off a young, perhaps unfit young striker and put on Casey Eaves who went back to a centre back/sweeper role and sured up the defence. Somerset pulled a goal back after a well taken free kick was headed in by Ulverstone's Brian Tabrett.

Half Time

The game was an even contest after the break until Callum Foote was rightfully sent off after receiving his second yellow. The first was for a late tackle. The second was for the most blatant example of kicking the ball away I have seen. Somerset obviously got on top of us after this and went on to overrun us through 2 quality and composed finishes by the best on ground Chris Smith.

It was a disappointing day for us as our attitude towards the game was not that of a team who were sitting 4th at the half way point. Some of our senior players put in some terrible performances in the second half and we didn't have a leader to pick the team up again. Chris Smith's experience shone through after the send off. He drifted forward in to attacking positions from midfield whilst our midfield and defence were caught ball watching. He had acres of space to compose himself and finish well for both goals. Overall, Somerset played with the heart and passion that I was expecting from my team. The Sharks thoroughly deserved their win.

  1. This was a very exciting game to watch. It was played fairly but with a lot of grunt and hard attack on the ball. There were 2 individuals who decided the result of the game, Smith won the game on his own, but obviously has the support of his team around him.
Even more influential on the result was Young Foote. I don't know the kid personally but I can only discribe what he did as a complete brain explosion. His team was in front and in control of the game at the time. It is not a good thing to say about a young player but he cost his team the game.

  3. It was stupid and I know him personally and he has some anger issues but it doesn't help when referees don't pull up fouls, two of them and then give the throw in to the wrong team. Not excusing his actions though.

  7. I don't think Chris is happy to see Burnie struggle, he still has a lot of time for the club it was just a few individuals he had issues with.
What is the story about fines?

  10. so are you sure it is the 'club'you have no time for or is it half a dozen or even only 4 people at the club that are the problem? not the whole club, there are a lot of decent people at the 'club' who would be disappointed to hear you say that chris.

  11. ..and hopefully the decent people will ask the supposed 4 to stop making decisions that are to the detriment of the group as a whole
