This Week's Fixtures

Launceston City v Riverside           Mitsubishi Park
This is a hugely important game for both teams if they plan on making the top 4 this year. Both teams are coming of losses. City were easily accounted for by league leaders Prospect, whereas River might be a little aggrieved that they conceded a late goal against Ulverstone to go down 1-0. The result from this game last time was 1-1.

Launceston Utd v Devonport         Birch Ave
Devonport will go top with a win over United. Their first round clash resulted in a 5-2 win to Devonport.

Ulverstone v Somerset                 Ulverstone Showgrounds
Earlier in the year, Ulverstone won 3-1, but it was an even game for a long time. Ulverstone will be silly to let Somerset’s lowly ladder position fool them into a false sense of security. The Sharks are due for another win and will fancy their chances this weekend.

Burnie Utd v Northern Rangers      Montello
Burnie have had 3 wins this year including a 3-2 win over this weekend’s opponents. Burnie will certainly be buoyant after their impressive 8-0 win over Launceston Utd last week and they will hope to continue their form. It will be a tough ask against a club who probably haven’t lost 2 games in a row for a while. Also, they wouldn’t have allowed a team to do the double over them in the season for a while. It should be an interesting battle.

  2. I think Rangers could be gone, play well but cant put sides away. I know its a big call, but just dont seem to be travelling as well as last season. Is close at the top I know with the four now most likely making up the top 4 for rest of year.

Burnie is a big game for them this week

  3. Launceston United will miss its 22-year-old French recruit, Alexandre Jean Rubel, who died in a car accident near Launceston last weekend.

  10. brodie knight got sent off. not kaimon

  11. kaimon should've got sent of though. poor tackle

  12. Anon june 3, we did film the game but lost power half way through, no point posting a first half only, probably do all our own editing from here on in also as I am sick of dealing with people in the south that are only interested in Southern Football, if you want something done in the north, get it done yourself I think is the motto again!

True that it was Brodie sent off, not Kaimon, doesnt even look like Kaimon so not sure who your eye doctor is, but get a new one.

A tip for Launny teams going to Burnie, Get a spot near the food table if hungry after the game, tradition of visitors eating first has gone out the window!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kaimon should have gone for tackle on Schipper.

Why are people at Burnie soo angry, same thing year after year..

    ReplyDelete
  14. Amazing part is that Burnie feel hard done, like theyve done nothing wrong. Only saw the second half but they were lucky not have 8 by the end. That tackle on the rangers number 10....

    ReplyDelete
  15. agreed with anon 14:05

they tend to think the world and the referee's are out to get them and shoot themselves in the foot with this mentality

calm down and play football your have a good bunch of players use them instead of having them sitting on the sideline with red cards next to their names

bit of common sense doesn't take a genius to work it out and everyone is better for it

    ReplyDelete
  16. Loves how everyone writes as anonymous. This is Jeremy from Burnie. How can everyone not see how the refereeing has turned to absolute crap!?!? The huge change from last year is incredible! And it's not just our club that has been getting nailed as everyone has seen. It's like our refs have gone to Hobart to take a crash course on how they play down there and turned the northern brand of football into some soft version of netball! Example our under 18s vs city. 2 of our blokes gone and one of theres. And they got 3 and 4 weeks. What a joke and this is just one! It has definitely turned me off the game!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jeremy sometimes as players you need to take responsability for your own undicaplined acts as players and not put the blame onto the refs all the time they cant be getting wrong every week

    ReplyDelete
  18. The funny thing is, at start of the year Burnie had a team to win the league. Now they wont even be playing finals

    ReplyDelete
  19. In my opionion the standard of the refereeing this season has been very good, havent seen to many things to be worried about. And dont blame Hobart for everything

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jeremey,

normally I would agree but on this occasion Burnie were treated fairly and lucky not to have further reds, facts were that you had better of the play and chances but cldnt convert and this frustration came out in the game. Don't blame the refs for a game that you lost but was not beaten

    ReplyDelete
  21. There were two posts I didn't allow... If you're going to have a fair crack at people then put a name on it so they can have a crack back.

    NO

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pretty sure no one from Burnie has blamed a referee for losing their last few games as they have done that for themselves not being able to score. But if you cant see how crap the standard of refereeing is these days, you definately need to pull your head out of whatever hole you've been hiding it in!! They have definately ruined the game so many of us loved!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jeremy,
Words speak louder than actions in some cases,Be very careful in what you say.Not only are you representing your self but also your team and club.To bag the refs out is not on.They are there to do a job,yes some might make mistakes now and then but they are only human. You must get over the point that refs are out to get you or Burnie United. Its when people carry on too much is when the refs and opposition start talking about you or the club.So i urge you to take a step back as a good player that you are and look who else you are bringing down when you do these things.

  24. I agree with Anon @ 06 June, 2011 19:05. I think the performance of the referees has been better this year than in previous years. This in no way reflects the performance of FFT's head of referee's who I think is seriously under performing & neglecting the northern referees. While the refereeing standard is better, in my opinion, many of the decisions made by the referee's assistants this year have been mind boggling to say the least. I don't blame these officials, I blame their boss who should long ago have set up a support network for these young guys. They need supervision & to be taught to apply the offside law when the ball is played not when it's received. The other thing that concerns me is Tony Cocker was voted referee of the year in 2010 yet struggles to get a Premier League appointment this year. We will lose him if he doesn't get appreciated a little more!!
As for Burnie's problem with referees, & everyone else for that matter, all I'll say is it starts from the top!

    ReplyDelete
  25. But the only issue is with Burnie, every other club is not picking up red cards week in week out

A little bit of eye opening needs to be done no one wants to go up to montello knowing they'll come off with an injury or an ear full of abuse because the opposition can't contol themselves

I was at the game on the weekend and the off the ball play is terrible the timing of tackles likewise.

I agree with anon 19:03 you had a team that was and still would have been capable of winning the league this season had it not been for ill discipline. I hope for your sake you can start to turn things around for next season

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ok fellows here is the latest...
Jeremy was fined $200 for stioeing too much at the referee after the game.....and may be Jeremy was stiring at the ref's hairstyle or whatever.
Now what next should we expect from FFT.

  27. I will add further to say that comments made by
anonymus 6/6 20.15 and say that he is spot on.
Despite playing with 10 players for most of the game had burnie not missed easy chancesa they could have won the game or at least a draw.

  28. Blaming the Ref’s is a very poor excuse for a losing team, Players from Burnie need to play to the laws of the game and there will not be a problem. Yes Ref’s
Do get it wrong but it seems to me watching from the sidelines it is the same players receiving cards for the same thing each week. Lets just hope these undisciplined acts do not follow onto the young playing group Burnie has.
Jeremy as a senior player you should be leading by example not putting the
    Blame where it is unwarranted.

  29. So even after I had I dig about not identifying yourselves you guys still don't have courage to write your name to a comment come on guys grow up a little and have your say. You guys are entitled to your opinion but I'd just like to put a few more examples forward... The hand ball rule seems to deviate between which ref you get on the day and after one match the ref was asked what the actual rule was (the head ref dude was there) and no answer could be given. I think the reply went along the lines of "we will have to look into it". In our recent game one of the rangers players swore and was warned... Um isn't it an instant red?? But yet they sent off a rangers player for swearing. So it's not just burnie that are being affected by the inconsistencies. Brodie night was sent of for a high elbow when the exact same thing happened to me in first have. I got a free for it but not even a warning was issued. I wanna know what has happened to the hard game that used to be branded to northern soccer. The only influence that I can see is the extra pressure from Hobart to give out more cards, I quote from a referee "I got into trouble for not giving out enough cards" that alone should speak as to some influence onto a game! I'm not saying all refs are bad and ruining the game. I agree there are still a few that let the game flow. And I'm not blaming all our losses on the refereeing. I totally agree we could have won many more games regardless of the decisions that were made... Ok I'll wrap it up soon. And now even tho I haven't slandered anyone on here I have been warned to keep my comments mild and not say anything about the refs or I could incur a fine?!?!?! Where has free speech gone haha now I'm aware why noone puts there name to comments!!! This is absolutly ridiculous. And we received yet another fine for a report that was put in against me after the game. Y was the club fined and not me? The club had nothing to do with it and I was clearly named as the offender and I guarantee the whole story wasnt told about me being antagonized (say something to me and I'll have a say back and as you can see I have a lot to say) but the head wigs aren't interested in hearing from the players or the other side of the story. So there is a bit there for you guys to think about and my views don't be scared guys chuck your name on here! Jeremy de Bomford. Burnie united. Send the fine through boys you won't get a cent!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Bomber comments or should I say a ranting like a lunatic that shows that Burnie really have no respect for opposition clubs, the officials and governing body and therefore really deserve no place in our comp. I feel really sorry for Sam Cocks, who is generally not a bad bloke but must find it hard when you have Kaimon, Ash, Petey, Bomber and co all whinging, whining about anything that doesn't go there way. You need to have the intelligence to play the ref. The one you had on the weekend is one of the best we have.

As for the Tony Cocker issue have to agree whole heartedly. Guy received a rousing reception when named ref of the year last year, and cant get a game. Rumour has it, he has offended the so called HEAD of referees, who hasnt a clue lets be honest. Start giving him games or he will be lost to the game.

Finally I noticed Rangers got 2 reds in the game against Burnie and I have not seen one complaint or carry on about it. Says something I would have thought.

  31. Pete you can't defend your club anymore sorry, its like the boy who cried wolf, no ones listening.

As for the refereeing this season, I think its been fairly good.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jeremy, Its not about the laws of the game changing to suit Burnie. Its about Burnie changing to fall in line with the laws of the game. Players in the NPL get away with more than probably any other league. If you don't like it don't play. Simple really.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So what you're saying Jeremy is the incident in the bar a)wasn't your fault b)you won't take your punishment? This is the point everyone is making about not accepting responsibility.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well said Jeremy,
It appears that FFT is not getting enough from club and player registrations and found another avenue to fatten further their coffers and clubs do not resist collectively but
become individual victims.Wake up presidents because today is Burnie but tomorrow could be your club.Fining a player for stiring at the ref after the game!!!!!! what next...spectators being fined for farting on the sideline?
Come on FFT you need more money for more employees and higher wages then I suggest that some of you get a pick and shovel.
You are only managing to drive players and spectators away from the game.
    Peter Christofi.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anon 15.19 maybe you should read jeremy's last post again, did he say that he didn't do or say thing to Tony? No, but the door swings both ways. And thats the problem with soccer these days the door only swings one way, & thats for the referees & FFT. The players have no say and defence in anything and are just expected to cop it all. And finally to anon 13.43 the reason rangers arent whinging about their "two" red cards on the weekend, maybe we should ask Captain Australia what happened to his?

    ReplyDelete
  36. The point is if Burnie dont pay the fine Jeremy cant play simple.

Bomber youve never had any respect for the refs. I recall an incident in the State final series at NTCA last season where you (as an injured player) walked around the ground yelling insults at referee Mr Pel. Guess what hes not refing anymore. Angry young man..

    ReplyDelete
  37. Pete

You miss the point, referees, opposition clubs etc have the right to go to Montello and not feel intimidated.I cannot believe that Jeremy debomford was find for stirring. Tony Cocker is a top bloke who would not make a report unless it was serious, and guess what I believe him!

You are a fine gentleman and stalwart of your club but loyalty clouds your opinions here mate

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sorry Peter. All you have done is show the same victim mentality. I'm sure presidents of other clubs aren't worried because their players are generally respectful and disciplined.

Oh, and by reports Burnie were only a man down for about 20 minutes (second half), and then had a man advantage for the last 10. Still don't let the truth get in the way of a good conspiracy story :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Peter Christofi

There is always two sides to each story and it looks to me we are only getting the Burnie side
i supose we will never find out the other side due to leagel side of the report which is fair enough has any body spoken to the referee concernd to get his side of what happend im sure there would be moore to it than just stairing at him.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well it is lovely to hear from so many critics but all guttless to put their name to their thoughts.May I tell you all that my only involment with the club is to watch a game and when Burnie is away I will watch another of the coastal clubs.
I have a lot of respect for Tony as a person and his ab ility as a ref.and he is entitled to repoprt anything that may not look good to him during and after the game.
I have seen the report[most of you do not know what you are talking about] and as I said..Tony is entitled to it but when FFT fine a player for that without checking things out and looking at the legality of it then I say that we have a dictatorship and not a federation belonging to the clubs and if I was involved with the club at all then the matter would have gone to court.
I definitely do not condone bad behaviour on and off the field but for God's sake do you ever watch other leages or internationals?
By the way it would be great if some people believed enough on their comments to have the courage to put their name instead of hiding behind the ANONYMUS
    Peter Christofi.

  41. No other clubs are having the issues Pete. Burnies disciplinary record is atrocious Burnie have not been hard done by.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Just to make myself clear..I have the highest regard for Tony's ability and I had conveyed that to him and to the CEO of FFT[who was at Montello on that day] and I am not writing about the cards either.

  44. Jeremy flipped him the bird and a bit more also.Just goes to show they are all individuals at Burnie no team spirit bad culture and it is showing on the pitch also.Great team on paper but thats about how far it goes. They have the bye this week wonder how many will turn to Aussie Rules.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Peter, you are a very very well respected gentleman but are trying defend the indefendable

    ReplyDelete
  46. Peter Christofi your adulation of Jeremies comments and your continuation of the same theme indicate to me that the issues at your club may not be the sole province of the playing group.

    ReplyDelete
  47. This League has bigger fish to fry than Burnie "bashing" - which Northern League clubs will be invited to the Statewide League in 2013?
Who will meet the FFT requirements, afford it and want to join? The Northern League could then become a Div 1 competition. There has been some suggestion that the Reserve League will also become a Social competition.

  48. disappointing to see you're all willing to have a crack at jeremy....anonymously.

  49. Anonymous 22.12,
Thank you for your comments but even in the English premier league players or offricials are given the right to explain themselves before the League. In this instance.. the point you all seem to miss is that an individual was reported some time after the game was over and was found guilty and sentenced without being given the right to explain himself. After all he was not shown the red or yellow card which automatically carries a sentence.
And this is my last comment on this matter.

  50. does anyone realise there are games on this weekend? or are we still arguing with what has happend in the past and can't be changed. I don't know about everyone else but i don't think a time machine has been invented yet, so i would probably advise everyone who has something negative to say to cop it on the chin and get on with it.
    just saying...

  51. i not buying into the fines side of things although if FFT didnt bother to follow up both sides of the story then this is disappoining to say the least and very unprofessional i would have thought imagine if the NTFL or state league handed out fines without consultation of both parties it would be back page of every newspaper. However Tony is a half decent ref and cant see him making the report without a basis for it, one does wonder if referees are heard bagging out or abusing players amongst themselves after the game would they be subject to the same fines as i know this has happened before,
I will agree though that the standard of referees this year is very different in terms of consistancy as in some pull up all tackles where others you can lose both legs and play on as a player all you can ask for is a consistant ref which this year it hasnt been with all seeming to play there own version of the rules on the day, just my opinion but this year the better refs seem to be the older ones who traditionally arent everyones favourites

    ReplyDelete
  52. I to am interested in peoples thoughts regarding a state league in 2013, if it goes ahead. We as clubs have the say on that. If we stay aunified then if we dont want a return to state league it wont happen. I personally think a move to a state league would spell the end of the northern league, turn it into a glorified social league.

Let me just say it will only take one club to break ranks and head to the state league and it will spiral out of control.

Nick perhaps we need a topic on the state league

    ReplyDelete
  53. P.C.

You seem not to want to follow the rules either !

It has been in place for some time that there is an automatic fine or suspention in place and if you want you can appeal ! not say its right but thats the rule so follow it !

    ReplyDelete
  54. Last comment ^ it has already been approved and passed. Statewide leaugue will kill the northern clubs. For instance some clubs from Hobart have already signed some substantial players from the mainland and talks are being held. The clubs up the coast just don't have the money to do this so it then becomes can you keep your better players when the southern clubs with all the money can buy anyone they want? Yes club loyalty and what not but how far does that go when we are already paying 300 dollars for rego and another club pays that and then some. Food for thought.

My dear anonymous friend. As I said before have the decency to put your name.
I have been involved with this game a lot longer than you and am aware of the rules and am glad to see that ytou also think that bit may not be right. If you ever follow the English premier league you will find that for actions taking place after the game the individuals are asked to present and justify their actions and if they do not then penalty is dished out and then they have the right of appeal.LOOKS LIKE WE ARE ONE UP ON THEM.
I do not condone ungentenmanly conduct on or off the field but the system has to give some rights to players before penalties are handed out.
I never have and never will abuse an official whether I agree with them or not and as for Tony he is one of the best we have on this part of the island but it is a fact as you may be aware that he does not have freedom of speech either with your rules.
